New chiropractic office opens in Hockinson

A few months ago Dr. Brook Young opened the doors to Simple Truth Chiropractic in Hockinson.

Young stumbled upon the Hockinson area on a recommendation from a friend and, having a place in his heart for small town living, decided it would be a good place to open his practice. His one room, two table office is located just a door down and in the same building as the Hockinson Market.

Young chose the name, Simple Truth, as a reflection of the body and its needs.

“I based the name on the concept that a body in motion stays in motion. Chiropractic wise, when spinal vertebrae are not moving, the surrounding tissues won't get blood flow to them. Blood flow brings oxygen into the area which heals the tissue,” he said. “Simple Truth reflects what is needed to be healthy and out of pain. Proper chiropractic work is the way it is acquired.”

This same concept is also reflected through his practice’s slogan, which is printed on his business cards. It reads: “Effecting positive change thru restoration of segmental motion."

After working in Portland for the last few years — where he still lives with his wife and fellow chiropractor — Young is eager to fully commit to the North Clark County area and hopes to have a shared practice with his wife once the business gets off the ground.

Along with the small town feel, Hockinson’s surrounding forests and rolling fields appeal to Young. Before and during his time as a student, he worked as a forest firefighter. He said he’s always been an outdoors man and prefers it to the big city concrete jungles like Portland.

His start

Pain, it has been said, can be a great motivator and in the case of Young, it was enough to motivate a whole chiropractic career.

Years back, Young had visited numerous specialists to find out why his hip was hurting but he could never get a clear answer and, more importantly, could never find a remedy.

Unable to find relief from his chronic pain through recommendations and treatment of specialists, Young began reading and researching on his own.

His research sparked an interest that evolved into a passion for chiropractics. He eventually found himself at the Western States Chiropractic College in Portland, where he would graduate in 2011 after earning a Doctor of Chiropractic. Although his chronic hip pain would persist even into his time as a student. As Young continued to learn more and research specifically to his need, he was able to find the proper remedy.

 His vision

As he becomes more established and better known in the community, Young hopes that people in the area will see him as a resource for convenient and trusted pain relief. He said the goal with anyone that comes to see him is to “get them out of pain first, then take it one step further to maximize their quality of life.”

Although offering general adjustments, young specializes in the treatment for automobile accident trauma, work related injuries, and sports injuries. Young is also trained in the treatment of extremity related conditions.
