12 Beers of Christmas at Northwood Public House

Festive beer enthusiasts looking for something unique have a dozen reasons to head down to Northwood Public House and Brewery in Battle Ground later this month.

Proprietor Eric Starr recently announced the restaurant’s fourth 12 Beers of Christmas special. From Dec. 24, 2018, to Jan. 5, 2019, customers can try a different beer on tap for $6 to $9 a pour.

“We’ll put a new one on every day for 12 straight days. Some go incredibly fast and some stick around for a while,” Starr said. “This is one of the most unexpected selections of beers you will ever see at one time, which makes it kind of fun.”

Starr looks forward to unveiling the Samuel Smith’s Winter Welcome ale, Dec. 26. He said this drink is brewed to celebrate the arrival of winter and holiday gatherings. The honey-ambered colored beverage features a creamy head of small bubbles, floral aroma, and a delicious caramel malt flavor.

Another one of Starr’s favorites is the Great Divide’s S’mores Yeti imperial stout, hitting the bottom of pints Dec. 29. He describes this beer as an onslaught to the senses. It starts with a big, “roasty” malt flavor that gives way to rich caramel and toffee notes mixed with American hops. Great Divide is giving Northwood customers a sneak preview of S’mores Yeti before it gets released in the summer.

The Lost Abbey should be a treat to the taste buds on Dec. 30. Starr states creator Ex Cathedra compliments and transforms this massive base beer with a tantalizing aroma and flavor from sweet orange peel, ginger, cinnamon, Madagascar vanilla beans, and raisins. There are also layers of dark malt, alcohol and yeast fighting to be at the forefront.

“If you’re looking for any of these beers on tap, you’re going to have to travel far and wide to find them,” Starr said.

Starr came up with this 12 Beers of Christmas concept to showcase the beers stored in his cooler for a few years and to shine a light on the local companies brewing beer in Southwest Washington.

“This is just a list of 12 beers out of the whole universe. There’s a wide world of beer out there,” Starr said. “We’re proud of who we are as a restaurant and a pub in Battle Ground. This list provides a sense of a personality and a sense of our passion for beer. We hope people find something off the beaten path and come back for more.”
