Area equestrian teams compete at state meet

High school equestrian teams from around the North Clark County area participated in the Washington High School Equestrian Team state meet, held May 14-17 at the Grant County Fairgrounds in Moses Lake.

Here are the results from the state meet for the different area high schools that competed:

Woodland

In the state team events, the Woodland High School Equestrian Team took fourth place in the in-hand obstacle relay (Tabitha Johnson, McKenna Paul, Serenity Gibbs and Amanda Shaw) and 13th place in drill (Johnson, McKenna Paul, Gibbs, Shaw, Alex Hollar, Lindsay Paul, Sarah Schmalenberger and Jaiden Marshal).

Individual events and state placings are listed here: Johnson – 16th place in saddle seat, third place and bronze medal in in-hand trail, and fifth place in dressage; Hollar – 17th place in saddle seat; Lindsay Paul – seventh place in stock seat.

The team’s total score, individual and team events, was 73.

Prairie

The Prairie High School Equestrian Team did well in several team events at the state meet, including first place and gold medal in working pairs (Devon LoBato and Kylie Vroman); first place and gold medal in in-hand obstacle relay (Paige Rinta, Alivia Stone, Vroman and Beca Thomas); fourth place in drill (Lobato, Chloe Nevins, Casey Kampe, Vroman, Taylor Adams, Thomas, Rinta and Courtney Kampe); and 17th place in team bi-wrangle (Nevins and Rinta).

Individual events and state placings are listed here: Casey Kampe – first place and gold medal in roping, second place and silver medal in steer daubing; Stone – first place and gold medal in showmanship, first place and gold medal in hunt seat; Vroman – fourth place in poles, 11th place in keyhole; LoBato – fifth place in over fences, seventh place in reining; Thomas – sixth place in over fences, fifth place in dressage.

Casey Kampe placed third for the high-point individual timed.

The team’s total score, individual and team events, was 251.

La Center



In state team events, the La Center High School Equestrian Team placed 12th in working pairs (Sarah Snyder and Rachel Scherrill.

Individual events and state placings are listed here: Ashlyn Perriman – eighth place in reining.

The team’s total score, individual and team events, was 19.

Battle Ground

In state team events, the Battle Ground High School Equestrian Team took 10th place in Canadian flag race (Kaci Huntington, Meghan Molinari, Kasey Raisanen, Mikayla Kytola and Hallie Wyles); third place and bronze medal in team sorting (Kytola and Wyles).

Individual events and state placings are listed here: Madison Klein – 10th place in barrels; Wyles – seventh place in figure eight; Emily Wagner – eighth place in working rancher.

The team’s total score, individual and team events, was 77.

Hockinson

The Hockinson High School Equestrian Team did well in several different state team events, including 11th place in drill freestyle six-plus (Demi Ellithorpe, Jennifer Wirth, Cheyenne Scherf, Bella Campzano, Elle Tilkin, Shaylee Coleman, Mackenzie Cour, McKenzie Lane, Madison Gray and Cheyenne Coleman); 11th place in team sorting (Scherf and Tilkin); 14th place in in-hand obstacle relay (Hope Miller, Scherf, Campzano, Shaylee Coleman and Cheyenne Coleman); 18th place in working pairs (Ellithorpe and Wirth).

Individual events and state placings are listed here: Miller – second place and silver medal in barrels, second place and silver medal in figure eight, second place and silver medal in reining; Tilkin – 15th place in dressage, second place and silver medal in hunt seat over fences; Rachel Mayes – fifth place in hunt seat equitation, 14th place in stock seat equitation; Wirth – seventh place in hunt seat equitation, second place and silver medal in working rancher; Ellithorpe – fifth place in in-hand trail, 15th place in trail equitation; Shaylee Coleman – third place and bronze medal in trail equitation, third place and bronze medal in showmanship, 15th place in stock seat equitation.

Hope Miller received fourth place for the high-point individual timed. She also received second place for the high-point individual versatility.

The team’s total score, individual and team events, was 198.
