BG entrepreneur grows carpet cleaning business

When 24-year-old Jeff Beacock first started North County Carpet Cleaning in the fall of 2013, he said he was “excited and hungry to serve,” but had no idea what struggles and challenges would follow over the next several months.

Just a few days after the Beacock family celebrated Christmas in 2013, Jeff’s 28-year-old brother, Chris, was killed in a tragic car accident. Jeff said this past year has been the toughest and most challenging year of his family’s life.

Jeff had just started his own carpet cleaning business after years of searching and saving, and also training and working in the carpet cleaning industry for some time with his uncle. He was just really getting the business off the ground when he lost his brother.

“I’ve wanted so badly to give up on everything time and time again, but I know that’s not what my brother would want, he was a real go-getter,” Beacock said.

So, instead of giving up, Beacock pressed on and worked toward his goals, and was able to expand his business and conquer long-term goals in the first year.

“We were able to invest in the business, form an LLC, buy a second van and now we are expanding our reach into Oregon,” Beacock said. “What’s next? We will see where life takes us one day at a time, trusting that it’s a part of God’s plan.”

Beacock said being in the carpet cleaning business kind of runs in the family and when he started doing some odd jobs with his uncle, who’s been a carpet cleaner for 15 years, he said it turned into something that he loved.

“I come from a family of business owners,” Beacock said. “My mom owned a restaurant for over 10 years, my dad owned a trucking business when he was younger and now him and my stepmom own a handful of Great Clips hair salons, my brother Chris owned a drywall business, and my uncle owned a carpet cleaning business.

“I knew from an early age that I wanted to own a business someday, I just wasn’t sure what, but I began saving early on in life.”

North County Carpet Cleaning provides carpet cleaning services throughout the Clark County area, including Battle Ground, Hockinson, La Center, Woodland, Ariel, Cougar, Kalama, Vancouver, Camas and Washougal. In addition, Beacock has recently decided to expand his services into Oregon, doing jobs in the Portland area.

Beacock said he decided to expand into Oregon after he started getting multiple calls from people who had heard from his customers about his business.

“I was getting a lot of referrals,” Beacock said. “My phone was getting blown up with calls from people saying, ‘Can you come to Oregon? We’ve heard about you.’”

Beacock offers several different services through his business, including residential carpet cleaning, commercial carpet cleaning, pet odor removal, Scotchgard Protector, move in/out cleaning and upholstery cleaning. He said the number of cleaning jobs he does each day can vary depending on the season. Sometimes during the summer, he said he might do five to six jobs in one day.

Some of the areas that Beacock commonly sees that need the most cleaning usually include high-traffic areas like hallways, around couches, stairs and in the living room. Typically, he said most customers want at least three different areas of their home done, although there of course those who want their whole house done or simply just one room.

To completely clean three different areas, Beacock said it typically takes him about 45 minutes to an hour, a whole house can take usually two to three hours depending on the size of the house.

Currently, Beacock said he plans on hiring someone this spring to be a co-worker with him in the one van before having someone completely take over the second van he just purchased.

Beacock attended Battle Ground High School and went to work for his brother, Chris, at his drywall business for a couple of years before starting his carpet cleaning business.

“I started my business with lots of careful planning, motivation, branding and aggressive marketing, towing trailer signs, etc.,” Beacock said. “I’ve bought some of the best carpet cleaning equipment on the market to ensure quality cleaning. I don’t know what the future looks like for us, but I do know that I want to be able to use my business to benefit others someday and impact lives in a positive way.”
