BATTLE GROUND – When Debbie Spence started looking around for a plumber in the Battle Ground area to help get running water back to a few fixtures in her mother’s house, she had no idea she would soon be getting a new shower installation for her mother, Mary Edmonson, free of charge.
Spence was looking around for an inexpensive plumber who could simply get running water back to some fixtures in Edmonson’s house. When Tyler Toivonen, of Sarkinen Plumbing, went to the home to give a quote, he fixed the water issues for free.
“When a tech has an opening in their schedule, we keep an eye out for anyone who needs help, but maybe can’t quite afford it and we take care of it for no charge,” said Tony Sarkinen, owner of Sarkinen Plumbing. “It’s just a little way to pay back the community that has supported my business for years.”
While checking out the house, Toivonen noticed the tub shower was unusable due to dry rot exposure and Edmonson couldn’t get into the shower. After speaking with Sarkinen, he decided to replace the tub shower with an easy accessible shower installation which ended up being a two-day job.
“My mom loves her new shower,” Spence said. “The Sarkinen team (members) are so great and they really went above and beyond for us.”
Sarkinen started as an apprentice plumber and journeyman in 1991 and worked with several companies throughout Clark County. He started Sarkinen Plumbing in 2003 and specializes in repipe, water heaters, water and sewer lines. He is from Battle Ground and lives in the community with his family.
Sarkinen said he and his 20 employees are typically pretty busy with jobs all year long, and they do numerous jobs involving water heaters, water leaks, re-piping and clogged drains. He said he has one son who works for him at Sarkinen Plumbing and another son at their other business, Sarkinen Rooter.
