BG grads build business from floor up

If you’re looking to have new flooring installed by Christmas it’s not too late according to Aleksandr Kolomiyets, the owner of Lifestyle Flooring in Battle Ground.

The new showroom located on Grace Avenue in Battle Ground is a dream come true for Kolomiyets and his wife Natalie. With a warm smile on his face, Kolomiyets shares his story of how he and Natalie were Battle Ground High School sweethearts, are now married for seven years and have two children. They began their adventure of opening a flooring supply business by working from their garage, their parents garage and a storage unit to house the extra inventory. After their business began to grow they realized they were ready to take the next step, which landed them in their new location on Grace Avenue.

One of the reasons why Lifestyle Flooring is different than most flooring stores is they offer products at wholesale prices to homeowners and contractors alike, Kolomiyets said. They also work hard to find the right price and product for the specific needs of each project.

Laminate flooring is the most popular of the products offered since it is durable along with being scratch and dent resistant. Kolomiyets said laminate is “the product that works for everyone.”

Laminate flooring comes in a variety of colors and designs which can include the look of wood, bamboo, cork or stone. It’s known for being extremely durable and a good choice for floors that will be put to the test of high traffic and pets.

If you are looking to upgrade or add value to your home hardwood is an excellent option. Hardwood flooring is a timeless product that adds value to any home, Kolomiyets said. The beauty of this flooring is it can be refinished and stained a different color several times over. On the negative side it is a soft product that can scratch and dent.

Ceramic tile is another option that offers a variety of colors, patterns and designs. It is durable but depending on the product it does tend to be colder to the touch compared to other types of flooring.

Other options for flooring are vinyl, stone, carpet and each has its benefits. Understanding what your flooring needs are is the first step in choosing a product.

Another service Lifestyles Flooring offers their customers is the ability to take several large pieces of flooring and lay them out on the showroom floor.

“It’s much easier to see what you’re looking at when you can view a big sample compared to the small two-inch by two-inch piece you get at big box stores,” Kolomiyets said.

If a customer is still not sure if they’ve found the right color or look they are trying to pull off, they can take large samples home by simply checking them out then bringing them back when they are done.

“I buy good products at great values and pass them to the customer,” Kolomiyets said. “Customers are surprised when they come to my store and see transition pieces for under $10 and they are over $30 at big box stores.”

If a customer is looking to cover from 20 square feet up to 350 square feet, remnants are something they should consider and they are priced at 50 cents to $1.19 per square foot. Other laminate flooring starts at $1.49 a square foot and goes up from there.

If you’re ready to tackle the installation yourself, Kolomiyets can set you up with a rental equipment plus an installation kit, accessories, staples, glue and underlayment — everything you need to get the project done. For those who aren’t up to the challenge, he will arrange for a professional installer to take care of it for you.

With a large inventory and fast local shipping, some projects can be started the day after you select what you want installed so your flooring project can be completed before Christmas.
