Evergreen Habitat for Humanity to dedicate home

Posted

On Mon., Jan. 19, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity will dedicate the organization’s 31st home in Clark County and family home for Michelle and Charles Frost and their three children, Katelyn (18), Serenity (9), and Charles Jr. (2).

Charles, a package handler at UPS, and Michelle, a stay at home mother, are getting excited as their home nears completion. Charles told Habitat staff members, “I feel like we have worked really hard to be where we are today.” This is evident due to the countless hours the couple has put in working on their home and the homes of other families in the Habitat program.

The home was built in the collaboration with Evergreen School District, Mt. View High School, and Evergreen High School. Students at both schools enrolled in the Geometry in Construction program to earn their math credit while getting hands-on building experience. The class is taught through College Careers and Technical Education for those students who want to learn about the trades. The students worked on their job site at each school, much like regular volunteers work on the traditional job site. This home couldn’t have been built without the support of the Evergreen School District and the tireless dedication of the students in the program.

This home was also made possible thanks to the financial support of Underwriters Laboratories Inc. and The Community Foundation for Southwest Washington.

Grocery Outlet (4th Plain) will be on hand to fill the cupboards with move-in necessities. Friends and family, volunteers, EHFH board and staff will gather to celebrate all the hard work and the beginning of the homeowner journey for the family.

Members of the community are invited to join in celebration along with Evergreen School District, Underwriters Laboratories Inc., and the Community Foundation for Southwest Washington on Mon., Jan. 19, 3 p.m., at 3603 O Street, Vancouver, WA, 98660.

Since 1991, Evergreen Habitat for Humanity has worked to improve living conditions for low-income Clark County residents. The nonprofit organization works in partnership with people in need from all walks of life to develop communities by building safe, affordable housing. Homes are sold at no profit with a zero percent interest rate mortgage after the partner families complete their sweat equity hours.
