Amboy carpenter turns hobby into second career

Beck’s Originals is a company owned by Beck Lipp with the help of her friend Cheryl Welch. “I’ve been doing woodworking all my life,” Beck said. “It’s always something I’ve been interested in and I had a friend who had a woodshop and when you are young and broke you make your own furniture.”

She started out in high school but really let her hobby take off later in life. Beck was born in Indiana and grew up all over the country, in states like Michigan and Alaska. She has lived in Clark County now for the past 45 years and previously worked for the Tualatin Water District.

A lot of her original work was for herself but she eventually started making more for friends, building furniture like shelves and tables. As she got further along in her skills she decided to sell her work.

“A friend of mine came up and said ‘you should call your business Becks Original Woodworking,’” Beck said.

That’s where it began.

“When I got closer to retirement age I wanted some small equipment that i could work on — more custom work,” said Beck, who now creates products like engraved boxes and wall hangings and even wooden utensils.

“I like doing boxes, doing inlane and using different types of woods and sources,” she said.

Beck even uses some of the wood from her own property in her pieces. She does create custom pieces and has made signs and other products for businesses and other customers in the area.
