Clark College installs basalt rocks for Japanese garden

Posted

On Oct. 27, Colf Construction installed the carved basalt rocks for the new Japanese Garden at Clark College.

The garden is located just east of the Music Building and O’Connell Sports Center on the main Clark College campus at McLoughlin and Fort Vancouver Way.

The garden, honoring the relationship between the City of Vancouver, Clark College and the citizens of Japan, is being built through generous donations from SEH America and Chihiro Kanagawa, executive officer of Shin-Etsu Chemical Company.

The college provided land for the garden while the City of Vancouver is overseeing the construction and the donated funds are being managed through the Vancouver-Clark Parks Foundation.

The basalt rocks were carved by a craftsman in Japan and are one of the key features in the garden. Scott Murase, principal of Murase Associates who designed the garden, will be in town to oversee the placement of the basalt.

Clark College is located at 1933 Fort Vancouver Way, Vancouver. For more information, contact Elizabeth Jordan at (360) 487-8321.
