Rowe Plumbing and Drain offers 24/7 services

In April 2014 when Tim Rowe decided to start his own plumbing and drain business, Rowe Plumbing and Drain, the three biggest factors that influenced his decision were wanting to be able to spend more time with his children, being his own boss and not being held back on providing quality work or having to hurry up and then run to the next call.

“At Rowe Plumbing and Drain we strive to provide honesty, quality and American craftsmanship with every job we do,” Rowe said. “We are a veteran-owned and family-operated full service plumbing business.”

Owned and operated by Rowe and his wife, Brittany, Rowe Plumbing is a full-service plumbing company, offering many different services within the realm of plumbing. Rowe said he does a lot of drain cleaning (clearing clogs), installing water heaters, installing new plumbing fixtures and fixing a variety of different leaks. He said the more difficult calls are the ones that take all day or a couple of days, such as a new water line from the water meter to the house, or taking out an old bathtub and installing a new bathtub or shower.

“You never know what is behind the walls or under them,” Rowe said. “Those are mostly labor intensive, but the really hard ones involve thinking of how to make something work, when an item is no longer being made and has to be removed and then you have to use what is available today and make it work.”

During the current season, Rowe said there is a lot of remodeling, new bathrooms and kitchens. Right at the beginning of winter and at the beginning of spring he said there are a lot of broken pipes and outside hose bibs due to freezing, and then during the holidays he sees a lot of clogged drains.

“Remember the only things that get flushed down the toilet are human waste and toilet paper, nothing else,” Rowe said. “Also, a plumber is just a phone call away if you have any questions about anything plumbing related, don’t hesitate to call and ask.”

Rowe is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help customers with their plumbing needs. He said he doesn’t get many calls in the middle of the night, but when he does he goes out and does what he can to remedy the situation. He said most of the calls that come in during the night are a clogged main sewer line or a busted water pipe.

Even with the large amount of rainy weather here in the Pacific Northwest, Rowe said he really doesn’t see a lot of outdoor drainage and/or pipe issues. He said most roof downspouts dump to the street or a French drain. However, he said they do have, in certain locations, water in the crawl spaces, so he does have to add or replace broken sump pumps or suggest having a land management company do a survey and see if a French drain might help reroute water away from the house or around the house.

As far as new installations are concerned, Rowe said some things that have been popular include new low-flow toilets that still have good flushing power and new low-flow faucets that look great.

“Water is a precious resource and we need to protect it by using less than we did 20 years ago,” he said.

Rowe Plumbing and Drain services the entire Clark County area, even Camper’s Hideaway at Lake Merwin.

Rowe was raised in New Zealand and came to the U.S. in 1989 and then again in 1999. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 2002 and is now a veteran. He said the Air Force is where he learned the plumbing trade in an intensive journeyman program. After leaving the Air Force, he worked as a plumber for several years in Seattle, refining his expertise in residential and commercial plumbing.

“I am an outgoing, fun individual who tries to think outside of the box on everything,” he said. “I have 30 fish, seven birds, five kids, two dogs and one cat.”

Rowe and his wife live in Vancouver and have a total of five children between them – Deidrah Linder, 16, Chloe Rowe, 11, Hayden Rowe, 10, Jordan Linder, 8, and Logan Rowe, 4.
