Eighteen local kids spent the morning of Saturday, December 8 shopping for gifts for themselves and their families during the City of Battle Ground’s “Shop with a Cop” event at Walmart. Seven Battle Ground officers volunteered to help them shop. Each shopper was granted $125 and all the time they needed.
The young shoppers attend Battle Ground schools and were nominated for their for exemplary citizenship and academic efforts by school staff.
Shop with a Cop is possible through ongoing support from the Walmart Foundation. This year’s Community Grant was $2,250.
“We appreciate Walmart’s support of this program,” Police Chief Bob Richardson said in a statement. “These kids are deserving and our officers appreciate the opportunity to further build relationships with them and with the public we serve.”
