Battle Ground and Prairie high schools were among the 17 schools to receive awards at the annual 5th Avenue Theater Awards in Seattle, an event that honors excellence in high school musicals. It is one of the most anticipated nights of the year for high school theater programs.

Prairie High School’s Mallorie Mendoza received the award for Outstanding Performance by and Actress in a Supporting role for her portrayal for Danielle in “Bring It On: The Musical.”

Battle Ground High School was one of four schools in Washington to take home multiple awards. Senior Maddie Breaux received the award for Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role for her performance as Jo March in “Little Women,” and the BGHS Drama Club was recognized with the award for Outstanding Stage Crew for the same production. Because she won the award for actress in a leading role, Breaux is headed to New York City for the National High School Musical Theater Awards on June 24.

“Words cannot adequately express how immensely proud I am of our incredible drama program,” Stephan “Cash” Henry, BGHS’ drama teacher said in a press release. “These awards are the state championships for high school theater in the State of Washington, and these kids are continuing to make the Battle Ground community proud.”
