The fifth Clark Public Utilities Race for Warmth was the largest and most successful yet, raising more than $60,000 for Operation Warm Heart.

On Jan. 27, a total of 1,479 community members walked or ran in timed 5K and 10K events. Every dollar earned from registration fees and donations will assist local families in financial crisis by covering their heating expenses.

“Every year the event has grown in both participation and funds raised,” Clark Public Utilities Marketing and Events Specialist Maxie Mayer stated in a news release. “The generosity of our Clark County community, including our steadfast business partners who help to cover all hard costs of the event, never ceases to amaze us here at the utility.”

According to the release, this year’s Race for Warmth included 150 more registrants and at least an additional $8,000 in donations over 2018. Burgerville restaurants across Clark County collected nearly $20,000 in donations, nearly double last year’s total.

Operation Warm Heart is a donor-funded program that helps community members in financial crisis who may not qualify for other payment assistance. Since its creation in 1985, more than 11,000 customers have received nearly $2.4 million in grants.

Donations to Operation Warm Heart can be made year-round at any Clark Public Utilities location, online at myaccount.clarkpublicutilities.com/owh or by calling (360) 992-3000.
