Sports & Recreation

SPRING MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS: Registration opened Feb. 8 for the middle school recreational basketball and volleyball leagues. Players will learn the basic skills and rules of the games, and have a chance to play other in-district teams.  Basketball games are on Fridays starting April 15 at BGHS, Volleyball has games on Saturdays starting April 16 at Pleasant Valley. Volunteer coaches are needed, contact Battle Ground Community Education if interested. Practice start date is dependent on the volunteer coach. Basketball is $85, Volleyball is $70. QUICKSTART SPORTS INDOOR SOCCER, grades K-4: Whether your son or daughter has been playing for years, or they just want to give soccer a try, staff will work with them to develop their soccer skills in a team atmosphere that is fun and exciting. During these weekly hour and a half classes, they conduct drills and games that are not only a blast to participate in, but also teach each player the necessary skills and fundamentals that are involved in the game. IRISH DANCE: Irish céilí dancing is for anyone who enjoys moving to music and doesn’t mind the fiddle. A popularized form of folk dancing in Ireland, céilídancing is a social group dance similar in form to square dance, but similar in style to the popular “Riverdance.” Appropriate for students ages 6-12 (prefer parental supervision to children under 10). Four to five of the traditional 30 Céilídances typically taught in a six-week course. Class meets on Wednesdays starting March 2, 5-6 p.m., at Captain Strong Small Gym, cost is $42. Education

INTRODUCTION TO DRAWING: Practice in-class exercises to learn the fundamentals of describing light and shadow on forms. Classroom demonstrations and individual guidance will be provided within a small group of students. You will create depth and the illusion of realism as you learn to draw from still life models. You will also develop skill working with traditional drawing techniques. You will experiment with a variety of papers and surfaces to develop your own unique viewpoint. Class is for adults. Class meets on Tuesdays from 6:30-8:30 p.m., at the Lewisville Campus starting March 8, five sessions, cost is $60 (includes materials). TEEN DRIVER’S EDUCATION: Battle Ground Community Education and Driving 101 will be offering driver’s education classes starting March 2 at Prairie High School. Class meets M/W/F from 2:50-4:50 p.m. Driver’s Education is the most important class you will ever take. Driving 101 goes over and above Washington State Basic Driving School Requirements.
