Enrollment for Washington State University Vancouver’s 10-week Agricultural Entrepreneurship and Business Planning course is open now through Feb. 21.

According to the University’s announcement, “the course is designed to help entrepreneurs develop a workable business plan to guide the success and sustainability of their agricultural enterprise.”

The course will focus on teaching beginner and current farmers and “value-added producers”  various aspects of operating a sustainable business and skills in regards to business planning.

A special emphasis will be put on record keeping, direct marketing and financial and legal issues unique to agricultural businesses. The instructors will include farm marketing specialists, accountants, attorneys, agricultural professionals and local farmers sharing their farming and marketing experience.

“This class provides a great opportunity for entrepreneurs to build a business plan that can help them become effective agricultural business owners,” said Amber Lefstead, small acreage program coordinator.

Doug Stienbarger, WSU Clark County Extension director, said “A business plan is like a roadmap that can guide farmers to be successful and resilient.”
