CRESA COMMUNITY EXPO will be Sat.-Sun., Sept. 6-7, 11 a.m.-2 p.m., at the CRESA building, 710 W. 13th St., Vancouver. This annual event gives everyone a glimpse inside the 9-1-1 Dispatch Center and the Emergency Operations Center. WSU VANCOUVER 25th anniversary Community Celebration on the Quad will be Sat., Sept. 6, 3-8 p.m., at Washington State University Vancouver, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver. From 3-5 p.m., explore programs, labs, financial aid, diversity and veterans’ services, student clubs and organizations and more. There will be food, giveaways and fun activities for kids. MEET AUTHOR and Tiny House pioneer Dee Williams at Vintage Books on Sat., Sept. 6, 2-4:30 p.m., at Vintage Books, 6613 E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver. FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Clark County’s Food History will be Thu., Sept. 4, 5-9 p.m., at the Clark County Historical Museum, 1511 Main St., Vancouver. This is the latest exhibit at the museum, this is the opening reception. Come explore Clark County’s shifting landscape of food as researched by students from Washington State University-Vancouver and illustrated using artifacts, documents and images from the museum’s collection. THE PORT OF WOODLAND Board of Commissioners will hold a budget workshop on Wed., Sept. 3, from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at the port office, 115 Davidson St. The topic for discussion will be the 2015 preliminary Port of Woodland budget.

VANCOUVER REGIONAL Library District personnel and consultants from FFA Architecture will hold meetings in Ridgefield and Woodland to explain future library needs in those communities and projected construction costs as well as taking input from residents. The Ridgefield meeting will be Wed., Sept. 10, at the community center, 210 N. Main Ave., and the Woodland meeting will be Tue., Sept. 16, at the city council chambers, 200 E. Scott Ave. Both meetings start at 6:30 p.m.

Sports & Recreation

A 5K RUN/WALK will be held at Marine Park in Vancouver on Sat., Sept. 13. The fifth annual Jordan Crouch Memorial event starts and ends at the park. Registration after Sept. 1 is $35 with the cost increasing to $40 on race day. Education

MEDIC FIRST AID PediatricPlus CPR, AED, and First Aid: The goal of this training is to help students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to manage a medical emergency until more advanced help is available. This course will cover adult/child/infant CPR, AED and Basic Emergency First Aid, such as choking, control of bleeding and managing shock. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certification card that is valid for two years. If you have a group of eight or more people, each person gets a $5 discount. Your group can attend the scheduled class or have a private group class at the Battle Ground, Lewisville location or a location of their choosing (as long as it is a reasonable distance for the instructor). STAGE MAKEUP AND COSTUME Classes: Stage Makeup and Costumes (Zombies) class is for ages 12 and up. This is a  one-day workshop teaching the basics of costuming and stage makeup and how to create fake bruises, scars, scrapes and open wounds. This workshop is perfect for creating a “zombie look.” You will receive hands-on training and tips to create the perfect look on a budget. Workshops taught by trained and experienced stage craft and theater teacher. Class meets Sept. 6 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the Lewisville Campus in Battle Ground, cost $20 plus $10 materials fee. There is another one-time session on Sept. 27. A Syfy/Prosthetics makeup workshop will be on Sept. 14, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., cost is $20 plus $20 materials fee. IRISH DANCE: Irish céilí dancing is for anyone who enjoys moving to music and doesn’t mind the fiddle. The class is designed to be as low or high impact as any individual would want, offering a good aerobic workout or simply a fun time. Appropriate for students 6 years and up (prefer parental supervision to children under 10), this class is great for adults and kids. Come in any clothing you find comfortable and no special shoes required (some find dancing in tennis shoes easiest while others prefer barefoot). Four to five of the traditional 30 Céilí dances typically taught in a six weeks course (dependent on size/interest of class). Session starts Sept. 24, six classes, class meets on Wednesdays from 6:30-7:30 p.m., at Captain Strong, cost $40. BEGINNING ADULT SEWING classes will be offered this fall, sponsored by Washington State University Extension 4-H Sewing and Textile volunteers. The first class will cover basic sewing tools, equipment and construction techniques. Homemade holiday gift ideas will be covered during the classes as well. Participants will need a sewing machine in good working order with an owner’s manual. A materials list will be provided for each class. Classes will be held in the afternoons starting in October.
