Battle Ground Lake State Park is teaming up with different Clark County institutions and organizations to bring evening programs to the community.

The events are free and open to the public, but a Discover Pass is required for day-use parking at Battle Ground Lake State Park.

July

• On July 6, the program is hosting “What’s Growing on Here?” and has a master gardener from the WSU Extension program to help visitors identify the native plants in the park.

• July 13 is “Something Fishy’s Going On,” an event with volunteers from the Columbia Springs education center teaching attendees in fish songs and common traits of all fish while discussing fishing at Battle Ground Lake.

• July 20 is the “Recycle Relay” with a recycling educator from Waste Connections of Washington. This event will have a fun game that teaches people of all ages how to be eco-conscious.

• To close out the month of July, the program is hosting “Nuts about Squirrels” on July 27. A Columbia Springs squirrel-recovery volunteer will be teaching people at the park about the native squirrels of the pacific northwest and about wildlife conservation. Arts and crafts will be involved.

August

• Opening up the month of August is the event “Whooo Are You?” where park goers will learn about owls and celebrate owl appreciation day with a Columbia Springs volunteer. Arts and crafts will be present.

• On August 10, “Batty for Bats” will teach event goers about the benefits of bats, what they can do to help them and arts and crafts. The topic will focus mainly on native bats like the little brown bat.

• Volcanos hit the stage on August 17 where an expert from the Mt. St. Helens Institute will speak.

• Get grossed out while learning about slugs and their role in our ecosystem on August 24.

• Closing out the year is “Batty for Bats” again on August 31.
