Education

THE CHILDHOOD VACCINATION CONTROVERSY, a free talk on this subject by Dr. Harley Youngblood, will be Tue., June 9, 7 p.m., at 11815 NE Hwy 99, Suite C, Vancouver. Information, (360) 696-4405.

SAFE ON MY OWN: For Ages 7 - 12. Learn how to handle being home alone. This American Red Cross class encompasses a variety of subjects including personal safety, how to answer the door or phone when home alone, Internet safety, sibling care, how to get help, basic first aid and family communication. FIRST AID/CPR CERTIFICATION: This course will cover adult/child/infant CPR, AED, and Basic Emergency First Aid, such as choking, control of bleeding, and managing shock. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certification card that is valid for two years. If you have a group of 8 or more people, each person gets a $5 discount. Your group can attend the scheduled class or have a private group class. Class is June 18, 6-9 p.m., at Lewisville. Cost is $49. A DISASTER PREPAREDNESS Seminar will be held Sat., June 6, 1-5 p.m., at Cherry Grove Church, 9100 NE 219th St., Battle Ground. Speaker Corey Fisher has a master’s degree in public health with special emphasis on disaster preparation and intervention. This event is open to the community, contributions are optional. PRAIRIE GIRLS BASKETBALL YOUTH CAMP: The goal of the Prairie Girls Basketball camp is to help young players learn the fundamentals of basketball, develop good habits and expand their talents. Players will be given a week of exciting basketball and an opportunity to improve their dribbling, shooting, passing and much more. Players of all levels are welcome. Campers will get a T-shirt. Camp is June 22-25 at PHS Main Gym, 1st-4th grades, 9-11 a.m., cost is $85; grades 5th-8th, noon-3 p.m., cost is $110. Art & Music

“I SEE BEAUTY EVERYWHERE” art exhibit, featuring the works of Battle Ground photographer Myrna Leija, will be on display June 5-27, at Second Story Gallery, upstairs in the Camas Public Library, 625 NE 4th Ave., Camas. Leija will have photos on display of the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. An opening First Friday Reception will be held Fri., June 5, 5-8 p.m. Live music will be offered by guitarists Anthony Utehs and Andrew Dodge. ART ADVENTURES CAMPS: For ages 8-14. The joy of creative thinking and self-expression are brought to life using methods such as painting, printing, collage, construction, paper mache, weaving and more.
