CLARK COUNTY HISTORICAL MUSEUM First Friday Opening Beading will be Fri., April 1, 5-9 p.m., at the museum, 1511 Main St., Vancouver. This is a social activity, not a class. Bring your own light. WASHINGTON STATE UNIVERSITY Vancouver will host a spring Marquee Diversity Event Tue., March 29, 7-8:30 p.m., in the Firstenburg Student Commons, 14204 NE Salmon Creek Ave., Vancouver. “Insatiable,” a contemporary exploration of the ancient practice of taiko – Japanese drumming – will be performed by UNIT SOUZOU, a professional company from Portland. The performers use drumming, choreography and singing to create a full-length theatrical work interpreting life’s eternal hungers and desires, recurring cycles and repetitions, and the impact of these universal experiences and emotions. THE WILLAMETTE RADIO Workshop will perform two live radio dramas in celebration of National Women’s History Month on Wed., March 23, 7 p.m., at the Kiggins Theatre in downtown Vancouver at 1011 Main St., Vancouver. The event is free and open to the public. Directed by Sam A. Mowry, the dramas are “Sorry, Wrong Number” and “The Hitchhiker,” both written by Lucille Fletcher. Entertainment

PROSE UNCORKED, a New Prose Open Mic hosted by Peggy Bird, will be Sat., April 2, 3 p.m., at Angst Gallery, 1015 Main St., Vancouver. Prose Uncorked is a new open mic for prose writers of all genres. This is an opportunity to share your work in progress or your newly released novel. Each writer will have five minutes to read, that’s approximately three pages. Readers can request that audience members fill out critique slips or just enjoy the chance to read their work aloud. Wine and snacks will be available for purchase from Niche Wine Bar. Organizations

THE WASHINGTON TRAIL RIDER’S Association monthly meeting will be Thu., March 24, 7 p.m., at Round Table Pizza, 616 NE 81st Ave., Vancouver. The Washington Trail Rider’s Association celebrates a love of horses and trail riding, with members at all skill levels. Visitors are welcome to the monthly club meetings where members discuss local rides, camping trips, trail maintenance and horse-related events. Sports & Recreation

QUICKSTART SPORTS INDOOR SOCCER: Grades K-4. Whether your son or daughter has been playing for years, or they just want to give soccer a try, we will work with them to develop their soccer skills in a team atmosphere that is fun and exciting. During these weekly hour and a half classes, we conduct drills and games that are not only a blast to participate in, but also teach each player the necessary skills and fundamentals that are involved in the game. Class meets on Mondays from 3:40-5:10 p.m. beginning April 18 at Captain Strong in the gym. At Glenwood class meets on Tuesdays beginning April 19. Six sessions, cost is $77. ACRYLIC & OIL PAINTING: Class is for adults/seniors. This class is for all-levels, beginners are welcome. You will have your choice of acrylic or oil painting. Subject matter will consist of floral, animals and landscapes. Your experienced, gentle and encouraging teacher will help you begin to the learn the basics or help you add to your current painting knowledge. These classes are addicting and will help build your confidence. You will be surprised by what you can do. Make some new friends and have a wonderful time. Materials are provided. FIRST AID/CPR/AED TRAINING: The goal of this training is to help students gain the knowledge, skills and confidence necessary to manage a medical emergency until more advanced help is available. This course will cover adult/child/infantCPR, AED and Basic Emergency First Aid, such as choking, control of bleeding and managing shock. Upon completion of the course, students will receive a certification card that is valid for two years. Class is 6-9 p.m., April 14 at Lewisville, cost is $49. Ask about group discount rates. MIXED MEDIUM DRAWING & PAINTING: Ages 10-18. Draw and paint using different mediums and sources. Learn techniques through different projects and subject matter. MAD SCIENCE AFTER SCHOOL: Take a bite out of science. Grades K-4. Join the Mad ScienceClub (MS) and stay after school for hands-on science fun with cool program topics and take-home projects. The most important rule in Mad Science is to “have fun!” Here’s your chance to get up close and personal with the type of science that we encounter in our everyday lives. Find out how nutrition, chemistry and energy work together to keep us healthy and happy.  Class meets on Tuesdays starting April 26 from 4-5 p.m. at Yacolt Primary, Thursdays starting April 21 at Glenwood & Pleasant Valley from 3:40-4:40 p.m., six sessions, cost is $90. Volunteers Needed

VOLUNTEER WITH Washington State University Vancouver Cougs in the Community to help move the North County Community Food Bank’s community garden on Sat., March 26, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Aho Family Farm, 21902 NE 189th St., Brush Prairie. Help plant seedlings, prepare starts for planting, dismantle and relocate a small garden shed, and haul raised bed materials and wooden frames. Be sure to wear gloves, warm clothing and shoes that can get dirty. Also, because limited tools and transportation will be available, you can be extra helpful by bringing your own garden tools, pickup or flatbed.
