Mt. Valley Grange to unveil ‘Barn Quilt’

Members of the Mt. Valley Grange No. 79 will unveil their “Barn Quilt’’ at an event to be held Sat., March 28, at 9:30 a.m. at the Grange, located at 40107 NE 221st Ave., in Amboy.

The idea for a “Barn Quilt’’ came from Darrell Johnson who saw one in “Country” magazine. The idea was mentioned to a member of a quilting group in Amboy, and their response was “When do we start?”

The idea was formed, the pattern was picked, and the board and frame were constructed. The “Barn Quilt’’ is done on plywood, and the design is painted on with house paint. This quilt block is 8-foot by 8-foot and is done in blue and gold on a white background.

Four quilters, who meet each week to work on their quilts, volunteered to transfer the design and paint it on the plywood. Many hours were spent on this ‘Quilt’ which is called

“Mt. Valley’s Dove at the Window.”

Mt. Valley Grange members will be unveiling this work of art on the opening morning of the North Clark Historical Museum Quilt Show being held this year at the Grange Hall and at the Museum.
