Healthy Kids Fair set for Saturday at Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center

Posted

At this year’s annual Healthy Kids Fair attendees can buy a properly fitted bike helmet for $6, get their child car seat checked, buy some fresh, locally grown strawberries, “operate” on a stuffed animal, tour an ambulance, play games, make crafts and win prizes.

Blaze from the Portland Trailblazers will stop by to visit with kids. Pet Partners will bring therapy animals into the hospital for kids to meet.

Many of Legacy Salmon Creek’s units and departments will offer activities and information for children and families.  Kids can learn about the brain, about their veins, how to do robotic surgery, and how to wrap a cast. They’ll have a chance to try Zumba and an obstacle course.

Legacy Trauma Nurses Talk Tough will sell and fit bike helmets and the Legacy Child Passenger Safety Program will check seats to make sure they are properly installed. Old car seats also can be brought to the fair for recycling.

Community partners also will participate, including Clark County Sheriff’s Office, YMCA of Clark County, Clark Public Utilities, WSU-Vancouver, Free Clinic of SW Washington, Battle Ground Free Clinic, Fire District 6 and AMR Ambulance. Medical partners include Adventure Dental, Creekside Medical, and Evergreen Pediatric.

Salmon Creek Farmers Market, which holds a Tuesday market at the hospital from July through September, will have several local vendors on site for the Healthy Kids Fair, offering local produce – including ripe strawberries.

The event has been held every June since the hospital opened in August 2005.
