Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center among ‘Most Beautiful’ hospitals

Legacy Salmon Creek Medical Center has been named among the top 20 “Most Beautiful” hospitals in the nation, based on nearly 250,000 votes in online polling in May and June. The annual recognition is coordinated by Soliant Health, one of the nation’s largest healthcare staffing organizations.

Legacy Salmon Creek earned the No. 18 spot, based on its stone-and-glass architecture, cascading fountains, gardens and other features. One thing that was specifically called out was the grand piano in the lobby, which is frequently played by volunteers and staff. It was one of only two hospitals in the Pacific Northwest to make the list; the other is Summit Pacific Medical Center in Elma.

“We like to say that healing is beautiful and vice-versa – and you proved us right,” said Carmela Nazareno, media specialist with Soliant Health.

“We’re honored to receive this distinction,” said Bryce Helgerson, chief administrative officer at Legacy Salmon Creek. “While we have great pride in the beauty of our campus, the real beauty is our staff and physicians’ commitment to delivering top-quality and compassionate care to the patients and families we serve. Doing that work in such a beautiful setting is a nice bonus.”

Legacy Salmon Creek was designed by ZGF Architects LLP in Portland and will celebrate its ninth anniversary in August.

The 220-bed hospital is part of Legacy Health, a nonprofit health care system based in Portland. Legacy Salmon Creek delivers about 3,000 babies a year and has more than 60,000 visits annually to its emergency room.

The hospital is a Primary Stroke Center, with a Certificate of Distinction from The Joint Commission, and also has been named a Top Performer on Key Quality Measures by The Joint Commission. The Total Joint Center at Legacy Salmon Creek has earned disease-specific care certifications for knee, shoulder and hip replacement surgery – only the third hospital in the nation to earn certifications in all three procedures.
