New eye doctor takes over for retired Dr. Barcus

Since buying the practice from optometric physician Dr. Gregory Barcus, Dr. Brett Richardson said he’s been overwhelmed by the loyal following that Dr. Barcus has.

“When I say thank you to Dr. Barcus’ previous patients that return to the office and take a chance on ‘the new doctor,’ typically their response is: ‘If you’re good enough for Dr. Barcus, then you’re good enough for me,’” Richardson said. “It is very humbling to meet and care for his previous patients. The community support has been tremendous and the Chamber of Commerce has been great. I am very excited to put my roots down in Battle Ground.”

Richardson, 31, purchased the eye clinic from Barcus in June and decided to move the clinic to a new location near the Battle Ground Cinema and Mill Creek Pub. The new location is at 1710 SW 9th Ave., Suite 112, Battle Ground. The clinic’s name is Richardson Eye of Battle Ground.

“I felt we could better meet the needs of Battle Ground by being in a location that is more visible and recognizable,” Richardson said. “Our sign is easily visible from Highway 503.”

A Grand Opening celebration will be held for Richardson Eye of Battle Ground Sat., Sept. 27, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. This event is open to the public and there will be free face painting, balloon art, hot dogs, raffle giveaways, a selfie contest and more. There will also be music and representatives from Coach and Columbia to provide 40 percent off sunglasses. There will also be a free vision screening offered.

A Grand Opening ribbon cutting event will also be held Sept. 26 for members of the Battle Ground Chamber of Commerce and other invitees.

Richardson graduated from optometry school in 2011 and since then completed his residency training in ocular disease and has been working with his father at his optometry office in Vancouver. Richardson said he will continue to work at both offices.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree in business management from Brigham Young University-Idaho, Richardson received his doctorate degree from Southern California College of Optometry. He completed residency training in ocular disease at the VA Medical Center in Spokane.

After his residency training, Richardson said he started work at a large ophthalmology clinic, but quickly realized that private practice was a much better fit for him. He started practicing optometry with his father in 2012.

Richardson grew up in Vancouver and graduated from Mountain View High School in 2001. He and his wife live in Vancouver with their three young children. In his spare time, Richardson said he loves sports and outdoor recreation. His family loves to spend time on the water and in the sun boating, paddle boarding, going on bike rides and more.
