CocoBella Spa staff celebrates anniversary

CocoBella Spa in Woodland recently celebrated its one-year anniversary with owner Shannon Hurn. Hurn was looking for a new adventure when she purchased CocoBella in December 2012, the same year it had opened seven months earlier.

Hurn continues to sell manufactured homes for J&M Homes in Woodland, as well. When she’s not running the helm at CocoBella, her capable staff is at the ready to provide the same excellent customer service that Hurn believes in.

“A lot of our ladies work, so we’ll stay open if they need a hair appointment like at 8 o’clock at night,“ Hurn said. “We do that a lot so we try to cater to our customers – especially our massages and we do them later in the week. So, we’ve been trying to accommodate the working gals. When I had my ‘nine-to-five’ job, everything was closed (in the evening).”

Complete hair services are offered by three different stylists with solid industry experience and education. Lyndsay Summers has a 15-year background as a stylist. Amy West has also been working with hair for 15 years. Britney Reynolds has three years of experience and is a cosmetology graduate of Aveda Institute. From trendy to traditional, sophisticated updo to casual and flirty, the staff at CocBella has hair design covered.

Summers is also the salon nail technician. Her scope of treatments range from basic manicures to the application of artificial nails. She’s versed in acrylic and offers fills and backfills, as well. Whether someone is looking for a French manicure, a reverse French manicure or nail art for the prom, Summers’ attention to detail makes hands a perfect 10.

CocoBella’s massage therapist Victoria Nakamaro hails from Hawaii and has been with the spa for six months now. Hurn said she has received rave reviews from Nakamaro’s clients. Nakamaro works afternoon and evening hours to accommodate the schedules of area residents. She charges $35 per hour.

Lash extensions are another beauty service offered at CocoBella. Reynolds received application training at Aveda. She says it’s particularly popular for weddings and vacations. The process takes between an hour and a hour and a half, depending on how many lashes a client needs. The effect typically lasts three-to-four weeks, subject to skin type and care taken with the extensions. Fills can be had if a lash is lost. CocoBella is currently running a special on lash extensions; $75 for a set from now until the end of June.

Customers looking for superior temporary hair removal will be pleased to know that CocoBella offers complete body and facial waxing. With spring break and wedding season fast approaching, now is a good time to be setting up an appointment. Studies show that consistent waxing actually thins and lessens hair growth.

Four tanning beds are offered at CocoBella. The stand up booth is popular for its superior results in a short amount of time. There’s a bed for fragile skin that uses 120 watt bulbs and is limited to 20 minutes per session. Rounding out the lineup are two traditional tanning beds.

In addition to all the services provided, CocoBella offers a complete line of hair care products and tanning lotions. A selection of scarves and handbags rounds out the accessories that have been carefully chosen by Hurn and the staff as stylish wardrobe accents.

Hurn is enjoying learning the in and outs of operating a spa and getting to know the clientele.

“Everybody always feels good when they leave,” Hurn said. ‘It’s always fun coming in here. Everybody’s always happy.”
