Garden Club Speaker Series coming up in January, February

The Battle Ground Garden Club offers a monthly guest speaker series that the public is invited to attend.

Community members are invited to attend and learn from experienced professionals and avid gardeners who are passionate about sharing their knowledge and techniques for successfully growing plants and vegetables. The club is open to all ages, from beginners to experienced gardeners.

Meeting dates are the first Tuesday of each month, 12:30 p.m. potluck lunch, 1:30 p.m. guest speaker, in the Moulton Falls Room at the Battle Ground Community Center, 912 E. Main St., Battle Ground. These meetings are free and anyone is welcome to join the potluck lunch and bring a dish to share or just come to listen to the day’s featured speaker.



At the Tues., Jan. 7 meeting, Annette Weeks, Battle Ground High School FFA adviser, will be the guest speaker. Weeks will share information on the area high school FFA program and how current members are learning how to meet the challenges of feeding a growing population. She will also discuss how the FFA has evolved over the years and the broad range of career pathways that are available such as biologists, chemists, veterinarians, engineers and entrepreneurs.

At the Tues., Feb. 4 meeting, Heather Havens, general manager for Concentrates Inc. will speak about the use of organic and natural fertilizers in gardens and soil management techniques. Concentrates Inc. of Oregon has specialized in organic agriculture since 1938.
