From backyard beekeeping to hands-on fence building, this year’s Small Acreage Expo offers classes for everyone interested in living on the land.

The 9th Annual Small Acreage Expo will be held on Sat., April 5 from 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at the 78th Street Heritage Farm in Vancouver and allows participants to choose from 13 workshops during four sessions throughout the day.

Sponsors WSU Clark County Extension and the Clark County Clean Water Program invite the community to this event, which features new workshops on topics such as hands-on fence building, goat keeping, growing fruit with nature, vermicomposting, beekeeping, raising beef, naturescaping and more.

Participants can still choose from many of the poplar topics offered in previous years such as installing drainage solutions, septic inspection certification, weed management, lime and fertilizer application, and pasture repair.

An open house during the lunch break will allow participants to meet and learn more about area organizations and agencies that serve the public as well as ask questions to local vendors participating in the event.  A program providing full descriptions of all classes as well as online registration is available at http://smallacreageexpo.brownpapertickets.com/.

Eric Lambert, Small Acreage Program coordinator, said, “This is a great event to get ideas about summer projects and to learn how to make improvements on your property.  We’re excited and thankful to get support and expertise from local organizations and vendors such as LJC Feed, Master Composters/Recyclers, Drainage Masters, and Wilco Farm Stores to make this event possible.”

Doug Stienbarger, County Extension director, said, “It’s great to see folks come to the Expo to network other landowners, make connections with local resources, and learn new things on a variety of topics.”

Registration is $10, $20 with lunch ordered before April 3. Call (360) 397-6060, Ext. 0 to get directions, or for more information about the WSU Clark County Extension’s Small Acreage Program.
