Washington State University Vancouver will celebrate Arbor Day with two tree planting events on campus.

The first event, a ceremonial Arbor Day kickoff, will be held from 3:30-4:15 p.m., Wed., April 9 in the quad. It will be followed by a tree planting event with the Clark Public Utilities’ StreamTeam from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Sat., April 12 at the pond by the sports fields. Both events are free and open to the public.

The kickoff will include the ceremonial planting of an Oregon ash tree. Chancellor Mel Netzhammer will speak at the ceremony.

The StreamTeam tree planting will give volunteers the opportunity to help plant trees. The public can sign up by emailing streamteam@clarkpud.com or calling (360) 992-8585. Volunteers should bring their own gloves. Refreshments will be provided.

StreamTeam is dedicated to proactively addressing the problems facing the Salmon Creek Watershed. The program has planted more than 700,000 trees since its inception in 1992, restoring approximately 120 acres of land along 15 miles of stream length.

WSU Vancouver is located at 14204 N.E. Salmon Creek Ave., east of the 134th Street exit from either I-5 or I-205. Parking is available at meters and in the Blue Daily Lot for $3. Parking is free on weekends.
