The following pets are currently available for adoption and are desperately in need of new homes.

Several pets from three area adoption organizations were selected as the featured Pets of the Month.

for Southwest Washington

Meet Maddie: Maddie is an 8-year-old golden retriever/border collie mix who is looking for a special family who will give her a place to call home. Maddie is very smart and she knows several commands, which include “sit,” “drop it,” “lay down,” “come,” “stay,” “shake,” and “off.” She also loves to play with tennis balls. She is a very sweet dog, but does have some sensitivity to handling, she will need to go to an adult-only home who understands her needs and is not looking for a dog who will roughhouse with you. Maddie does enjoy being loved on, but gets a little frightened at the vet. She also prefers to be the only pet in her new home and to keep her safe, she will need a secure 6-foot-wood-fenced yard. Maddie enjoys laying next to you when you work on the computer and will make a great companion in the right home. Ask how to meet Maddie today.

The adoption fee for senior dogs, 7 years and older, is usually $50-$75.

Meet Rosemary: Rosemary is a 5 1/2-year-old domestic medium hair dilute torti female cat. She came in originally as a stray and was adopted. Unfortunately, she had to be returned when her owners could no longer care for her, so she is looking for a new home where she will be loved always. Rosemary would like to meet any children in the family she might be living with before being adopted and should go to an indoor-only home. She may need a hypoallergenic diet, ask about that at the adoption desk and then ask how to meet Rosemary today.

The adoption fee for adult cats, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $50. Prices may vary due to premium pricing.

Meet Saphira: Saphira is a 4-year-old American pit bull terrier that came to the shelter when her previous owner could no longer care for her. She can be a bit timid and shy at times, so she’d like a quiet home. She lived nicely in a household with older children and a male dog. She has also politely met some other dogs here at the shelter while on a leash. In her prior home, Saphira was fully house trained, so she should do well once she settles into her new routine. She knows her basic obedience commands and seems eager to learn so much more. She especially enjoys giving kisses and receiving gentle belly rubs. Because Saphira is a sensitive girl, she needs a home with children older than the age of 6. Please bring any children or other dogs she might be living with, but please, no cats because she thinks it’s fun to chase them. Stop by and meet Saphira today.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $100-$200. Prices may vary due to premium pricing.

All adoptions at The Humane Society for Southwest Washington include spay or neuter surgery, microchip ID system and national registration, flea treatment for cats, vaccinations, free veterinary exam with a local participating veterinarian, animal training information, low cost pet insurance options and more.

Furry Friends

Meet Bob: Bob was left for Furry Friends by his owners in the middle of the night. He was pretty sick, but after a vet visit and medication, he has recovered and is doing very well. Bob is a sweet and loving boy and has adjusted easily to the changes in his living situation and to the new people around him. Although his background is a mystery, Furry Friends is happy to have him. Bob is a domestic medium hair brown tabby and he is neutered.

Meet Hildie: Hildie is about 9 months old and is a black domestic shorthair kitty. She is very curious and is very much a “look, watch, then leap” kind of gal. She is a little more reserved than her brother, Hugo, but she is a lovely little sweetheart. Hildie is incredibly athletic, it is hard to keep up with her as she zooms around the house. Hildie also has an amazingly loud purr for such a little kitten. Like her brother, Hugo, she is used to living with cats, dogs and children. She cuddles with the dog at her current home and adores the older cat there. Hildie is spayed.

Meet Mau Mau: Mau Mau is almost 4 years old and is a domestic shorthair brown tabby. She is a curious girl that likes to know what is going on at all times. She wants to be in charge and likes things a certain way - her way. Mau Mau has a few favorite toys and loves cat nip. She likes to relax in her favorite bed enjoying the music on the radio and zoning out. Her current favorite place is the new outdoor enclosure at the shelter. Mau Mau loves the fresh air, hearing the birds singing and laying in the sun.

Minimum suggested donations for the majority of cats/kittens is $80 for one, $100 for two (if adopted at the same time). Persons at least 60 years of age who adopt a cat 3 years or older will receive a senior rate of $60 for one or $80 for two. If interested in any of these kitties, visit www.furryfriendswa.org and fill out an adoption application. Applications can be mailed to Furry Friends, 6715 NE 63rd St., Suite 450, Vancouver or faxed to 1-800-353-1686. Contact Furry Friends at (360) 993-1097.

Second Chance Companions

Meet Rascal: Rascal is a 4-year-old Airedale terrier mix. She needs to find a new home because she unfortunately enjoys chasing and hurting chickens. She also likes to bother the cat she lives with, but she doesn’t hurt him. However, she doesn’t know what she’d do with a strange cat or how she’d do with other dogs. Rascal loves people, children included, and will jump up and down in place to greet people when they come home. Rascal will come when called, but will do best with a fenced yard. She is used to being in and out, and is house trained, but not crate trained. She will need to be spayed when she finds a new home, but Second Chance Companions will help with a low-cost spay. Fill out an application today.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, 6 months and older, is usually $100.

Meet Mini-Me: Mini-Me is a medium hair Maine Coon mix and is 8 years old. She enjoys giving people lots of attention and will talk to you non-stop until you stop to pet her. When you pet her, she is usually talking the whole time. She loves the companionship of an adult and would do best as the only pet, as she doesn’t seem to want to share. Mini-Me will need some time to adjust to a new home, as she is still shy around strangers and loud noises. She is litter trained and needs to go to an indoor-only home, as well as a non-declaw home. She tested negative for feline leukemia and FIV.

The adoption fee for senior cats is usually $35.

Meet Bud: Bud is a 1-year-old collie mix. He is a sweet, great guy, but is very shy and will need a home that is quiet and calm. No children younger than 10 years old. Bud is looking for a calm canine friend to play with, not sure how he is with cats. Bud walks well on a leash and would love an active couple that would walk him daily and take him on hikes. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate at night. Bud will need a fenced yard to run and play in. He is microchipped.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, 6 months and older, is usually $100.

If interested in any of these Second Chance Companion pets, fill out an adoption application at www.sccpets.com or call (360) 687-4569.
