for Southwest Washington

Meet Turkish: Turkish is a fun-loving, 3-year-old German Shepherd/lab mix. He is an athletic and smart dog and staff at the Humane Society are seeking an experienced shepherd or large breed owner who is looking to adopt a new best friend or expand their pack. Turkish loves to stretch his legs and explore, and he would be a great on-leash jogging companion or working dog. He will do well with an active person in a home setting with adults or children older than the age of 14. He will enjoy and will benefit from obedience, work or sport dog training and with an owner with good handling skills. Turkish gets along well with other dogs, but needs a household with no cats. He needs a setting with secure fencing and an owner with leadership skills to keep him engaged and active.

Turkish has great potential to be a fun and dedicated partner and companion dog. If interested in Turkish, contact tzimmerman@southwesthumane.org.

The adoption fee for adult dogs, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $100-$200, prices may vary due to premium pricing.

Meet Hazel: Hazel is a 2-year-old Domestic Short Hair brown tabby. She came to the shelter as a stray and was never re-claimed. She is now looking for a family to call her own. Hazel was bit shy at first when she got here, so anyone who adopts her might want to expect that when she gets home for the first few days. She is a little stand-off-ish with other cats, so she’ll need a slow introduction if you have any other cats at home. She does enjoy human interaction and being brushed, but doesn’t seem to be a lap kitty. If you think Hazel could fit well into your house, bring your children in to meet her today. Hazel is currently available at the Petco in Hazel Dell.

The adoption fee for adult cats, ages 6 month to 6 years, is usually $50.

Meet Jon Snow: Jon Snow is a Domestic Long Hair brown tabby with white. He was adopted from the shelter a couple of months ago, but was returned because he didn’t get along with the children he was living with. Because of this history, Jon Snow should not go to a home with any children younger than 14 years of age. He will need to meet any children older than 14 in order to ensure their safety and his safety. Jon Snow is a very curious cat. He loves to go exploring and has lots of confidence, so he isn’t scared very easily. In addition, he is also a very loving cat and loves attention. If adopted, Jon Snow will need to be an indoor cat only due to the fact that his longer fur may be prone to getting mats in it. Ask about meeting Jon Snow today.

The adoption fee for adult cats, ages 6 months to 6 years, is usually $50.

Furry Friends

Meet Callie: Callie is a white Domestic Short Hair. She is 11 years old and is spayed. She has one golden eye and one baby blue. Callie loves to talk and sometimes she talks just to hear her own voice, but mostly she talks to make sure people are paying attention to her. One of Callie’s favorite things is to lay on her human’s lap, purring at the top of her lungs. Her second favorite thing is to be held in her human’s arms. She is very petite, so carrying around is pretty easy. Callie loves people and loves attention.

Meet Bryce: Bryce is a great cat, with no issues, no bad habits, just a big boy wanting some love. He is a 10-year-old tuxedo Domestic Short Hair, and he is neutered. Bryce is used to living with many other cats and is fine having multiple friends. He came from The Great Kitty Rescue in Pahrump, NV, organized by Best Friends Animal Society, Kanab, UT.

Meet Francis: Francis is a very friendly, active girl. She is just more than 1 year old and is a Domestic Short Hair dilute torti. She is spayed. Francis loves to talk and is always moving, as there is so much to explore at her foster home. She was found as a stray and so far she is a bottomless pit and eats everything in sight. As soon as she realizes that food will always be there for her, she will probably slow down and relax.

Minimum suggested donations for the majority of cats/kittens is $80 for one, $100 for two (if adopted at the same time). Persons at least 60 years of age who adopt a cat 3 years or older will receive a senior rate of $60 for one or $80 for two. If interested in any of these kitties, visit www.furryfriendswa.org and fill out an adoption application. Applications can be mailed to Furry Friends, 6715 NE 63rd St., Suite 450, Vancouver or faxed to 1-800-353-1686. Contact Furry Friends at (360) 993-1097.

Second Chance Companions

Meet Tilly: Tilly is a wonderfully sweet “senior citizen.” She is a 10-year-old Lhasa Apso and is quiet and very loving. Tilly needs a quiet home to grow old in. Her current owner needs to give her up because of the owner’s poor health. Tilly has recently been diagnosed as diabetic and is on daily insulin. She has also recently lost her sight. Tilly would be best in a home where is “top dog,” in other words, as the only dog. She is also best with children older than 10 years of age.

The adoption fee for senior dogs or dogs with medical issues is usually $60.

Meet Reverend: Reverend is 8 years old and is a neutered male treeing walker coonhound. He is a typical tri-colored hound. He is sweet, playful, protective and house trained; he even sleeps in his own bed. However, his owners have a new baby that makes Reverend really nervous with all the crying and crawling around. He needs to find a new place to live where there aren’t any children or cats. Reverend would make a great partner for someone who likes to be outside walking because he likes to be on the go. He does run off sometimes, but always comes back.

The adoption fee for senior dogs is usually $60.

Meet Clyde: Clyde is a 1-year-old, neutered Domestic Long Hair grey tabby. His family found him eating bird seed out of a feeder one stormy winter night; he was starving and cold. The people who found him provided him with a home and because of their care a nurturing, he has slowly learned to trust and love. Clyde is now very friendly, he loves to lick hands as his special way of showing appreciation. It’s too bad the other cats in his house don’t appreciate Clyde, they bully him as a way to keep their “top cat” status. Clyde tries to protect himself, but his owner is getting tired of trying to break up cat fights. She thinks Clyde would be happier and thrive in a house where he is the only cat. Clyde still lives mainly outdoors and does get a long with the family dog.

The adoption fee for cats older than 6 months is usually $50.
