Pets in search of forever homes

Posted

A number of dogs and cats in Clark County are currently looking for someone to adopt them and provide them with a new forever home.

Those interested can visit one or all of several adoption organizations in the Clark County area. Here are a few pets currently available for adoption at a few local agencies:

Furry Friends

Meet Hiway: Hiway was relinquished to Furry Friends with his friend Kahlua after their human lost both his job and his home, and they were all living in a car. This sweet older gentleman can be a little shy at first, but once he realizes you're cool, he'll gladly accept chin scratches and a good brushing. Hiway is both independent and calm, so he would make an easy addition to a quiet household.

Meet Buttons: Buttons was given his name because he is just so darn cute. He likes to think that he is bigger than any human especially in bed when they lay down and he is on top of them.  At that point, he feels like he is on the top of the world.

Buttons likes to romp, cuddle, snuggle under the covers, and massage the arm of his human’s arm with his front paws as he purrs. He might even drool a little. His brother, thinks he is the always the boss.  But he is a good boss and works really hard at night rearranging and hiding bananas. Buttons and his brother like to hang out and have fun together so they would like to find a home together.

Meet Isabella: Isabella just arrived at Furry Friends recently and she has four kittens that are eight weeks old. All are available for adoption. The kittens are Izzie, a girl, long hair gray; Ivy, a girl, short hair gray; Idgie, a boy, short hair Siamese; Irvin, a boy, long hair Siamese.

These kitties are available from Furry Friends in Vancouver. Adoption fees include spay/neuter, microchip, vaccinations. You can view more kitties available for adoption at www.furryfriendswa.org. For more information call (360) 993-1097 or email information@furryfriendswa.org. Those interested can also visit some of Furry Friends’ kitties at PetSmart in Hazel Dell, 316 NE 78th St., Vancouver.

Furry Friends’ Mission Statement is to care for homeless, relinquished and abused cats by:

Humane Society for Southwest Washington

Meet Bianca: Bianca is a lovely Shar-Pei mix looking for a place to call home. Bianca is a gentle and friendly gal who would do best in a home with children over the age of 6. She would like to meet any older kids or dogs with whom she may be living. She is 7 years old and weighs just under 60 pounds.

Meet Doesha: Doesha is a gentle guy that is housetrained and rides nicely in a car. He has lived amicably with children and would like to meet any kids with whom he may be living. Doesha would like all the love to himself, so he needs to be the only animal in the household. Doesha would like a 6-foot wood fence to help keep him safe. He is an American Pit Bull Terrier that is five years old and weighs 64 pounds.

Meet Baja: Baja just arrived and the staff and volunteers haven't had a chance to get to know her well, but they feel she would do best in a high energy household. Baja would like to meet any dogs or children with whom she may be living. Baja is an American Pit Bull Terrier who is 1 year old and weighs 49 pounds.

Adoption fees vary for cats and dogs depending on age, breed and other factors. All adoptions include spay or neuter surgery, microchip ID and national registration, select vaccinations, free veterinary exam with a local participating veterinarian, animal training information and 30 days of free pet insurance.

The Humane Society for Southwest Washington is located at 1100 NE 192nd Ave., Vancouver. Adoption center hours are Tue.-Sun., noon-6 p.m. Contact the shelter at (360) 693-4746.

Second Chance Companions

Meet Lucy: Lucy's family has determined that she needs to be the only pet in the house because she picks fights with the other dogs and is aggressive towards the cat. She thinks she's a lapdog and will try to always be sitting on or near the person she thinks is "hers." She's great with quiet, calm children but if there is any scuffling or roughhousing she feels she needs to be the referee so probably not a good fit for a household with small active children.

House and crate trained, Lucy does have basic training and is smart enough to learn much more. She might do well in a household with other dogs if there is a strong alpha presence. Her owners hate to re-home her but don't feel they can correct her behaviors. She is 1 and a half years old and weighs 65 pounds.

Meet Dixie: Dixie is a 1-year-old Lab mix looking for love. Dixie’s current owners rescued her, got her all healthy and are devoted to finding her a forever home. Dixie is house and crate trained and knows basic obedience. She loves to be with and cuddle up to her people, all 75 pounds of her.

Dixie enjoys car rides and hanging her head out the window. She really likes long walks and hikes and finding sticks bigger than her to carry around. Dixie also does great at the dog park and doggy day care and would be a wonderful companion for another playful dog. However, Dixie does like to chase cats. She also has some separation anxiety but she can be home for 4-6 hours as long as she’s had some good exercise. Her current owners work a lot now and want to find a family that can help her with this issue.

Meet Pudgy: Pudgy is your typical Jack Russell Terrier – he has lots of energy but is very sweet. He has basic training, is house and crate trained and is great with kids. He likes to chase cats but that’s not unusual for his breed. He loves to do tricks for his treats and would love to have some sort of job to do.

Pudgy has not had too much exposure to other dogs but tends to want to keep his yard to himself. Owner would like to find him a home before end of year. He would make a great walking buddy for someone who likes to take walks. He is 3 1/2 years old and weighs 28 pounds.
