Maggie the cat is breathing easy after some nasal surgery funded through the help of a $1,000 grant for the Petfinder Foundation helped her recover from respiratory trouble.

Furry Friends, a Vancouver-based no-kill cat shelter, recently received the $1,000 Emergency Medical grant from the foundation, a release from the shelter stated. The money is going toward the medical expenses of Maggie, a one-year-old orange tabby cat that the shelter rescued.

When rescued Maggie had severe respiratory problems, the release stated. When three rounds of antibiotics wasn’t enough, the cat was taken to a specialist where a one-inch nasal polyp was removed from her nose.

“We greatly appreciate receiving the grant from Petfinder,” the release stated, adding that Maggie has recently been adopted and is breathing normally, “keeping her new forever family entertained with her purrs and playful antics.”

The Petfinder Foundation provides assistance for the more than 12,000 animal shelters and rescue groups that post their adoptable animals on petfinder.com. Since its founding in 2003 the foundation has given more than $20 million in funding and product grants to rescues and shelters across North America.
