Auditions: “Wake up Darling” Magenta Theater

Friday, April 3, 6:30pm

“Wake up Darling” by Alex Gottlieb is a cheerful comedy set in 1956 New York.  The play is about Polly Emerson, a young woman who wants to be an actress.  Her husband, Don, is a successful advertising man (NOT Don Draper!) who yearns to be a playwright.  Don understandably isn’t too happy when Polly comes home with Deerfield Prescot, a very young guy who has written Broadway’s next musical hit – or so he tells Polly and Don.  Deerfield moves into their apartment which adds to the havoc already brewing with Don’s secretary, Martha, Polly’s beautiful pal, Gloria, an interfering maid named Juliet and more!  When eventually it seems as though peace will reign again, Don’s mother-in-law arrives on the scene.

The play is produced by special permission from Dramatists Play Service, and is directed by Alice Tanzillo.
