Class Teaches Land Stewardship

Clark County, WA – Over the past 18 years, over 500 Clark County residents have graduated from the Living on the Land class series. This program will not only bring in local experts to teach key stewardship principles to small acreage land stewards, but this year participants will have the unique opportunity to learn from experts statewide, as this course will be fully online.  Local experts will give advice on pasture management, controlling weeds, wildlife, soil health, well & septic maintenance, and more.  Statewide presenters will cover topics, including: sustainability concepts, whole farm planning, evaluating resources, enterprise assessment, marketing and business strategies, farm production practices, ecological soil management, integrated pest and weed management, livestock considerations, intensive livestock management, and equipment/facilities considerations.

“This year’s course will be applicable to farmers and anyone interested in learning about small acreage land management and stewardship,” says Terry Koper - WSU Clark County Extension’s Small Acreage Coordinator.

The program is hosted by WSU Extension, WSU Clark County Extension, and supported by Clark County Public Works Clean Water Program.  Classes run for 12 weeks, Tuesday evenings from September 22 through December 8th.  Classes will be held fully online and advance registration is required.  The cost is $35 per person or $50 per household/farm (up to two registrants).  To register and find more information on Whole Farm Planning - Living on the Land visit the WSU Extension’s website at http://go.wsu.edu/smallacreage or contact Terry at Teresa.Koper@wsu.edu and 564-397-5729.
