Please join us for a free lesson in Origami-making led by Vancouver's own master Origami artist, Holly Williams, of Holly's Origami Facebook fame. This is purely a fun social event for paper-folding enthusiasts and wanna-be's. For our first Origami-making project we have chosen the name "Taking Flight." Our subject is the majestic yet humble goose, and if you are asking, "Why not the crane?"  That's simple. Its lifeways are the perfect metaphor for the spirit of All Saints Episcopal Church's liturgical environment and congregational model of "Gather, Transform and Send."

The individual goose's survival depends on its flock's ability to maintain direction, formation, strength and endurance. At altitudes ranging from 3000 to 9000 miles and speeds of 40 to 55 miles per hour, those leading the flock have a tremendous responsibility. Battling inclement weather and strong headwinds, they will eventually tire, but the flock continues its choreographed perfection. Some drop back and new leaders emerge. The goose's instincts protect and compel it to rely on the flock's communal strength. It also knows when to hold back or move to the front. Like us, each bird survives and flourishes most when part of a dedicated, loving and inclusive community. So! No special skills are necessary. You will be led step-by-step. We will supply the materials and the guidance and that inclusive community.

WHO SHOULD COME: If you were the boy who made amazing paper airplanes, you'll dominate this. Ladies? If you've already tried Origami with a YouTube video, here's your opportunity for mastery. Children? Let's face it. We know you are already cool, but making Origami art just makes you that much cooler.:) For this project we are restricting participation to 9 years old and up. However, if you are a bit under the age cutoff but really, really interested?  We will make an exception. If it doesn't work out, All Saints has a great playground - until your Mom or Dad are finished with their geese. Please come join us! It's really, really fun!

PUBLIC WELCOME: For the class only, we will start at 11:30am and expect to finish about 1:00pm. Drop in as you can - leave when you need to. Also, feel free to come early and join our host community, All Saints Episcopal Church for services at 9:00am or coffee hour around 10:00am.

ABOUT OUR TEACHER: Holly Williams lives in Vancouver and teaches Origami throughout the region. An Origami master artist, she is generously donating her time.
