MARGARET UGLAND
Margaret M. (Openshaw) Ugland, 95, died Sept. 16, 2006, in Winter Park, FL.
Ugland was born May 21, 1911, in Ontario, Canada. She became a U.S. citizen in 1954. She lived through earthquakes in California, the eruption of Mount St. Helens near Battle Ground, and three hurricanes while living in Florida.
Family members describe Ugland as a strong woman who often said “when I get old, I plan on sitting in a rocking chair collecting stamps.” She never did.
Ugland lived in Battle Ground from about 1980 until about 2004. She attended SNAP luncheons.
Ugland was preceded in death by her husband, Sydney Ugland, one brother and one sister. Survivors include son Richard Ugland of Ohio, daughter Marion Holmes, formerly of Battle Ground and now of Florida, brother Tom Openshaw of Canada, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Baldwin-Fairchild Funeral Home of Florida is in charge of arrangements.
KATHLEEN UPTON
Kathleen “Kathy” Marie (Parker) Upton, 43, died in an apparent murder-suicide July 5, 2007, at home in Ridgefield.
Upton was born May 30, 1964, in Torrence, CA. She graduated from Columbia River High School. She worked as a cashier and clerk. She loved the outdoors, camping, fishing and hunting. She enjoyed working in her yard with plants, reading and doing crafts.
Upton is remembered for her smile, laugh and caring and loving ways. Her family was very important to her and her sister was her best friend.
Upton was preceded in death by her mother, Carlene Parker, aunt Sheila Parker and her grandparents Margaret and David Parker and Luella Green. Survivors include sons Jacob Parker and Joshua Upton, step-daughter Shana Marshall, father David R. Parker of Vancouver, sister Michele “Shelly” Anderson of Vancouver, and brother David S. Parker of Montana.
A celebration of life was held July 16 at Mt. Valley Grange in Amboy. Davies Cremation & Burial Services handled arrangements.
RONALD UUSITALO
Ronald John Samuel Uusitalo, 66, died Jan. 19, 2007, in Buckley.
Uusitalo was born Oct. 26, 1940, in Vancouver, lived in Clark County, and moved to Buckley in 1948. He enjoyed music, singing, Lone Ranger, Superman, fire trucks and comic books. He was disabled.
Survivors include brother Richard Uusitalo of Vancouver, sisters Marlene Hylton of Vancouver and Marcia Quinn of Brush Prairie, six nieces and nephews, and numerous cousins, great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services will be held Fri., Jan. 26, 11 a.m., at Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
