HEIKKI TANNINEN
Heikki “Henry” Tapani Tanninen, 63, died of an aortic aneurysm
Feb. 6, 2008, in Vancouver. Tanninen was born Sept. 23,
1944, in Lahti, Finland, and lived in Battle Ground for the
past 23 years. He loved visiting family and friends. He was
a life-long member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Tanninen was preceded in death by his father, mother,
step-mother, five brothers, two sisters and one grandchild. Survivors include widow Jeanie Tanninen, at home in Battle Ground, daughters Cari Raisanen of Amboy, Katie Hiivala
of Minnesota, and Crissa and Tara, both at home, sons Dean
Tanninen, Patrick Tanninen, Jason Tanninen, Barry Tanninen,
Cory Tanninen, and Jari Tanninen, all of Battle Ground,
Daniel Tanninen and Max Tanninen, both of West Richland,
Jeffrey Tanninen of Pasco, and Shane Tanninen, at home, brothers Leo Tanninen, Martti Tanninen, Pekka Tanninen, Edward Tanninen and Lauri Tanninen,
all of Canada, Esa Tanninen of Michigan, and Hans
Tanninen and Mark Tanninen, both of Battle Ground, sisters
Hanna Ranta of Finland, Sisko Kysar of Yacolt, Eija Martinen,
Seijo Lemieux, Ingeri Hodnett and Ruth Vuohijoki, all of
Canada, and Effie Raisanen of Minnesota, 48 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial was at Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

RALPH TAPPAN


Ralph Dale Tappan, 77, died May 11, 2008, in Portland, following a tractor accident.


Tappan was born Aug. 7, 1930, at Manor in Clark County, attended Manor School through the sixth grade, and graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1949. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1951 and served with the Signal Corps in Germany as a diesel generator operator until 1953. He lived in Clark County his entire life, in Battle Ground for 64 years.


Tappan married Ina Mae Hesner in 1954. They raised five children and lived in the Manor and Battle Ground area all their lives.


Tappan worked as a brick mason, retiring after 32 years at Alcoa and seven at Vanalco. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, family activities and church involvement. He was a long-time member of the Charter Oak Church. He loved being outdoors. He grew Christmas trees.


Tappan was preceded in death by sister Audrey Kipp. Survivors include widow Ina Tappan, at home, sons Michael Tappan, Larry Tappan, Richard Tappan and Rodney Tappan, all of Battle Ground, daughter Kristi Kreller of Battle Ground, and nine grandchildren.


Because Tappan was given 72 units of blood products while in the hospital, the family requests remembrances be made as blood donations.


Interment was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

CYNTHIA THARP
Cynthia (Cummings) Tharp, 60, died Oct. 25, 2006, at home in Battle Ground.
Tharp was born July 29, 1946, in Columbus, OH, and lived in Battle Ground for 25 years.
Tharp enjoyed rug hooking, painting, and playing soccer.
Survivors include husband Craig Tharp of Battle Ground, sons Chad Tharp and Troy Tharp, both of Seattle, and Scott Tharp of Idaho, and two grandchildren.
Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, was in charge of arrangements.

ADELINE THOMAS
Adeline Elise (Jones) Thomas, 91, died Feb. 10, 2008, at home in Woodland.
Thomas was born May 7, 1916, in Woodland. She was a member of the Longview Community Church. She was 2006 Woodland co-citizen of the year with her husband, Ben Thomas. She was a past member of the Cowlitz County Cemetery District board and the Woodland School Board.
Thomas was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Thomas, and daughters Catherine Swett and Sue Raab. Survivors include brother Lloyd Jones of California, son Ben Thomas Jr. of Woodland and Robert Thomas of Idaho, daughters Mary Peterson of Portland and Linda Ferris of Alaska, step-daughter Shirley Wertman of Woodland, 19 grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 11 step-great-grandchildren.
Interment was at Frank Abel Cemetery, Woodland, with the Vancouver Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

EILEEN THOMASSON
Eileen (Johnson) Thomasson, 84, died Jan. 10, 2007, in Salinas, CA.
Thomasson was born Dec. 11, 1022, in Duluth, MN, and lived in Battle Ground for 35 years before moving to California about three years ago. She was instrumental, with her husband, in starting the Battle Ground Elks Lodge.
Thomasson worked as a nurse for 50 years.
Thomasson was preceded in death by her husband, Max Thomasson, in 1991. Survivors include daughter Kathleen Vestesen of Battle Ground, son John Thomasson of Vancouver, daughter Sharon Clark of California, five grandchildren, and many friends.
Foothill Cremation Service, Placerville, CA, was in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

DONNA THRASHER
Donna Mae (Davis) Thrasher, 62, died June 11, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Thrasher was born Feb. 6, 1945, in Sawyer, KS, and lived in Clark County for 20 years, the past seven years at her home in Battle Ground.
Thrasher enjoyed craftwork and garage sales.
Thrasher was preceded in death by daughter, Teresa Riley, in 1982, and son Greg Hammel in 2004. Survivors include widower John Thrasher, at home, son Kevin Williams of Kansas, daughter Marquita Campbell of California, step-sons Trevor Colby of Vancouver and Mel Thrasher of Ridgefield, brothers David Davis and Clinton Davis, 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, was in charge of arrangements.

DONALD TIMMINS
Donald James Timmins, 69, died Oct. 11, 2007, in Vancouver.
Timmins was born Dec. 29, 1937, in Kingsley, Iowa, lived in Vancouver for many years, and then in Cougar the past 6-7 years. He was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman.
Survivors include son Pat Timmins of Michigan, daughter Cathy Dunford of Vancouver, brothers Dan Timmins of Oregon, and Ed Timmins and Wayne Timmins, both of Vancouver, seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and many friends.
A remembrance will be held Sat., Oct. 20, 1-4 p.m., at Cougar RV Park in Cougar, with Wherity Family Funerals and Cremation, Tualatin, OR, in charge of arrangements.

ROGER TIKKA
Roger Walter Tikka, 61, died Sept. 20, 2006, in Brush Prairie.
Tikka was born Oct. 6, 1944, in Woodland, and lived in Clark County for 60 years, the last 23 years in Brush Prairie.
Tikka was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his family and his many Christian friends. He worked as a roofing installation contractor.
Tikka was preceded in death by brothers Chet Tikka and Mike Tikka. Survivors include widow Helen Tikka, at home, sons Jon Tikka and Nels Tikka, both of Battle Ground, daughters Lisa Hancock of Vancouver, Beth Wantaja of La Center and Amy Homola of Battle Ground, brothers Don Tikka of Woodland, and Howard Tikka and Dave Tikka, both of Vancouver, and 16 grandchildren.
Burial was at Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

JOANNE TORMANEN
Joanne Alice Tormanen, 35, died May 31, 2007, in a motorcycle accident in rural Clark County.
Tormanen was born Aug. 11, 1971, in Portland, and lived in Clark County for 32 years, the last three months at her current home in Brush Prairie.
Tormanen worked as a registered nurse with Legacy Emanuel Hospital. She also operated Jo Jo’s Old, New and Vintage Too antique store in Battle Ground.
Tormanen was preceded in death by brother Dale Tormanen in 1980. Survivors include parents Jim and Gladys Tormanen of Brush Prairie, brothers Roger Tormanen of Battle Ground, and Duane Tormanen, Tim Tormanen and Nick Tormanen, all of Brush Prairie, sisters Jackie Tormanen of Vancouver, Julie Williamson of Battle Ground, and Mary Lee and Amy Redinger, both of Wyoming, and 36 nieces and nephews.
Burial was at Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

SOPHIA TOWNE
Sophia (Jacovidis) Towne, 92, died June 9, 2007, in Vancouver.
Towne was born March 24, 1915, in Souhoumi, Russia, and lived in Vancouver for the past nine years and had previously lived in Battle Ground.
Towne was fluent in several languages. She enjoyed traveling. She attended Salmon Creek United Methodist Church and was involved in the church quilting club. She liked playing classical music, especially Chopin, and attending symphony concerts. She was a good cook and liked to read.
Towne was preceded in death by her husband, Frank M. Towne, in 1990. Survivors include daughters Helen Towne and Kathryn Towne, both at home, brother Dimitri Jacovidis of Greece, and sister-in-law Jany Jacovidis of France.
Memorial services will be held Wed., June 20, 11 a.m., at Salmon Creek United Methodist Church, Vancouver, with interment in Lewisville Cemetery, Battle Ground. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.

GERMAINE TRICOLA
Germaine Marie (Marier) Tricola, 83, died Dec. 7, 2007, in Woodland.
Tricola was born Sept. 9, 1924, in Hugo, MN. She volunteered her time playing the organ in church and directing the choir. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, playing the piano, bingo, cooking, gardening, reading books, watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
Tricola was preceded in death by her husband, Vincent Tricola, and son Matthew Tricola. Survivors include daughters May Wills and Therese Berg, sons John Tricola, Anthony Tricola and Thomas Tricola, 13 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
The Woodland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
