ALBERT OBERFELL
Albert LeRoy “Red” Oberfell, 71, died Jan. 30, 2008, in Yakima.
Oberfell was born May 25, 1936, in Backus, MN, and
served in the U.S. Army. He operated a horse boarding stable in Battle Ground from the early
1970s under 1985, and had a lifelong love of horses and cattle dogs. He also worked as a bartender and did maintenance work. He enjoyed his work at Chambers Western Junction and other businesses in Goldendale since 1985. Oberfell lived in Battle Ground from 1971 until 1985. He was a past Exalted Ruler of
the Battle Ground Elks Lodge. He was active in the Clark
County Fair and one of the original fence riders. He was
an avid bowler and had bowled three 300 games in league play.
He was a member of the American Legion in Goldendale.
Oberfell was preceded in death by infant son Christopher
Oberfell, and niece Patty Thompson. Survivors include
widow Muriel Oberfell, at home in Goldendale, daughters
Rhonda Allen and Brenda Hallquist, both of Mt. Vernon,
step-sons Paul Pearce of Skamania and Steven Pearce
of Vancouver, step-daughters Vickie Reynolds and Robbyn
Wilkinson, both of Vancouver, sisters Sandra Goree of Goldendale
and Jeanne Hillier of Texas, 12 grandchildren, five
great-grandchildren, 10 nieces and nephews, and pet and companion, cattle dog Sass.
A celebration of life will take place Sat., Feb. 16, 2 p.m., at the American Legion, 108 N Grant, Goldendale, with Keith
and Keith Funeral Home, Yakima, in charge of arrangements.
CLYDE OLSON
Clyde Calvin Olson, 57, died May 18, 2007, in Seaside, OR.
Olson was born July 30, 1949, in Seaside, grew up in Brush Prairie, and attended Battle Ground High School. He worked in auto mechanics, and lived in California for several years until moving to Seaside about one month ago.
Olson was preceded in death by his father, John Olson, in 1993, and brother Boyd Olson in 2000. Survivors include mother Edith Olson of Brush Prairie, sons Robbie Olson of Seaside and Gavin Washburn of La Center, sisters Donna Winston of Battle Ground and Roberta Huennekens of Brush Prairie, and three grandchildren.
Memorial service arrangements are pending. Cremation was handled by Caldwell’s Luce-Layton Mortuary, Seaside, OR.
RAYMOND OLSEN
Raymond Egbert Olsen, 99, died Feb. 4, 2008, in Battle Ground. Olsen was born Sept. 21, 1908, in Dagmar, Montana. He lived in a sod house and attended a school built of sod. He could speak only Danish when he started school, yet he finished eight grades in seven years. In 1930, Olsen rode with Anton and Jessie Andersen to on a dairy farm for room and board. Olsen operated a grade A dairy farm in the Fargher Lake area for 50 years. He dug the first pit silo in Clark County and put up hay in round bales. He farmed until age 85. Olsen was a seventh degree member of the Fargher Lake Grange. He helped form Fire District 10 and served as a fire commissioner. He also served on the board of the federal Agricultural Stabilization and Conservation Service for 25 years. He was a charter member of the Cascades Presbyterian Church Olsen was preceded in death by brothers James Olsen, Leo Olsen and Arthur Olsen, and sisters Agnes Yudysky and Mable Olsen. Survivors include wife of 70 years Bertha Olsen, at home in Battle Ground, daughter Clara Jane Holcomb of Battle Ground, sons Lawrence Olsen of Oregon and Paul Olsen of Onalaska, sisters Edna Hedges and Edith Grayson, both of Montana, brothers Harry Olsen of Montana and Edvin Olsen of Oregon, five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at View Cemetery, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
DEWEY OLTMANN
Dewey D. Oltmann, 83, died Nov. 3, 2006, in Yacolt.
Oltmann was born Jan. 20, 1923, in Post Falls, ID, and lived in Clark County since 1946, last at Yacolt. He owned and operated several service stations in the Portland-Vancouver area, his last being Dewey’s Mobil in Vancouver. He had operated a Union 76 station in Battle Ground 1948-49.
Oltmann served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Pacific Theater. He was a member of the Smith-Reynolds Post of the American Legion.
Oltmann was preceded in death by his wife, Anne R. (Fink) Oltmann, in 1997. Survivors include daughter Marlis Peters of Ridgefield, sons Wayne Oltmann of Ridgefield, Fred Oltmann of Camas and Tom Oltmann of Forks, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren..
Services will be held Fri., Nov. 10, 10 a.m., at Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home, Vancouver, with private inurnment at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver.

JAMES O’ROURKE
James Michael O’Rourke, 74, died Nov. 4, 2006, in Vancouver
O’Rourke was born Dec. 3, 1931, in Franklin Park, IL, and lived in Clark County for 66 years, last at Yacolt. He worked as a logger and truck driver, driving for Parr Lumber, and then as a bus driver for Greyhound for 23 years. He earned Driver of the Month honors with Greyhound. He served in the National Guard., 41st Division, 167th Field Artillery.
O’Rourke is remembered for his honesty, high moral standards, kindness and sense of humor.
Survivors include widow Marjorie O’Rourke of Yacolt, daughter Erin O’Rourke of Seattle, sons Patrick O’Rourke of Yacolt and Michael O’Rourke of Austria, and six grandchildren.
The Vancouver Funeral Chapel was in charge of cremation and other arrangements.
RONALD OSBORNE
Ronald Eugene Osborne, 67, died July 12, 2007, at home in Woodland.
Osborne was born May 16, 1940, in Tacoma, and attended school in Jamestown, CA. He moved to Woodland from Portland in 2003.
Osborne enlisted in the U.S. Army and worked in supplies. He later worked at Boeing and Sumner Real Estate. He recently worked in property management and maintenance.
Survivors include widow Brigitte, at home in Woodland, sons Ronald Osborne Jr. and Robert Osborne, both of Vancouver, brother James Mayhew of Oregon, sisters Peggy Gaynor and Sheila Pervaskie, both of Oregon, and three grandchildren.
Visitation will take place Tues., July 17, 2-6 p.m., and Wed., July 18, 10 a.m.-noon, at Woodland Funeral Home, with graveside services set for Wed., July 18, 2 p.m. at Frank Abel Cemetery, Woodland.
