GERALD LAFOND
Gerald E. LaFond, 62, died June 23, 2007, in Vancouver.
LaFond was born Oct. 27, 1944, in Vancouver, and lived in Clark County his entire life. He lived in Amboy for 26 years.
La Fond was a lifetime member of the Clark County Saddle Club. He participated in team roping. He enjoyed fishing and bow hunting with his buddies.
LaFond worked as a truck driver in the steel transport industry.
Survivors include widow Kay LaFond, at home in Amboy, daughters Chris White and Laura, both of Vancouver, step-daughter Sandi Emond of Oklahoma, five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be held Thurs., June 28, 11 a.m,. at Layne’s Funeral Home Chapel, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

BURL LANDIS
Burl Edward Landis, 88, died July 22, 2007, in Johnston, Iowa.
Landis was born August 4, 1918, in Page County, Iowa. He worked as a carpenter and contractor in construction.
Landis lived in Battle Ground for about 25 years.
Landis was preceded in death by son John Edward and brother Clyde Landis. Survivors include widow Phoebe of Johnston, Iowa, brother Curtis Landis, sisters Carrie Merrit and Lee Ross, and several nieces and nephews.

ERNEST LANG
Earnest “Ernie” E. Lang, 74, died May 8, 2007, in Vancouver.
Lang was born Oct. 1, 1932, in Laurium, MI, and lived in Clark County for 60 years, the last two years in Vancouver.
Lang graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1951 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church and the American Legion. He enjoyed woodworking, fishing, hunting and other outdoor activities.
Lang worked as a millwright for 45 years in the paper manufacturing industry.
Lang was preceded in death by daughter Melanie Lang. Survivors include widow Doris Lang, at home, son Randy Lang of Vancouver, daughters Becky Buckmier of Portland and Robin Falls of Vancouver, step-children Tim Trachtenberg and Michele Thode, both of Vancouver, and five grandchildren.
Burial was at Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

AMANDA LARSON
Amanda Bloomquist Larson, 97, died May 14, 2007, in Vancouver. Larson, born May 4, 1910 in Hockinson, was a life-long resident of Clark County, with most of her years spent in the Hockinson/Brush Prairie area. She and her husband owned the Union 76 service station on SR-503 at NE 119th St. for more than 50 years and operated the station for decades.
Special interests during Larson’s lifetime included swimming, tennis, gardening and canning.
Larson was preceded in death in 1976 by her husband, Fred Larson, brothers Edward, John, Otto, Rudolf, Gustoff and Frank, and sisters Mary, Lena, Amanda and Esther.
Survivors include Larson’s son, Stanley G. Larson, of Blairsville, GA, granddaughter Lisa Espinosa and her husband, Percy, of Kingston, three great-grandsons, Britt, Jack and Owen Espinosa, and several nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service will be held Sat., May 19, at the Elim Lutheran Cemetery in Brush Prairie. A memorial service open to the public is scheduled for Sat., May 19, 2 p.m., at Elim Lutheran Church, 15815 NE 182nd Ave., Brush Prairie.

FLOYDINE LARSON
Floydine Marie (Nix) Larson, 76, died Feb. 28, 2007, in Ridgefield.
Larson was born Aug. 19, 1930, in Portland, and lived her entire life in Ridgefield.
Larson was a member of the Evergreen Old Car Club and enjoyed cars. She also enjoyed knitting, sewing, animal rescue and watching trains. She raised beef and milk cows and had milked cows. She was active in 4-H.
Larson was preceded in death by her husband, Clinton Larson, in 2002. Survivors include sons Clifford Larson and Dennis Larson, both of Ridgefield, Duane Larson of Vancouver and Monte Larson of Shelton, sister Lorna Kimbro of Ridgefield, eight grandchildren and one niece.
A memorial gathering will take place Tues., March 6, 1-4 p.m., at the Larson home, 17611 NE 2nd Ave., Ridgefield.

GERALDINE LARSON
Geraldine Ann (Ellis) Larson, 68, died April 27, 2008, at home in Battle Ground.
Larson was born Feb. 24, 1940, in Portland, and lived most of her life in Vancouver, the last five years in Battle Ground. She loved flowers and gardening, painting, collecting antiques, and bird watching. She loved spending time with her family, special shopping days with friends and her great-granddaughter Bailey Rose.
Larson was preceded in death by her first husband, Ralph Forgey, son Jeffrey Larson, brother Craig Ellis and sister Myra McLoughlin. Survivors include husband Roger Larson, at home in Battle Ground, sons Randy Forgey and Scott Larson, both of Woodland, Ralph Forgey of Vancouver, and Kevin Larson of Battle Ground, daughters Julie Watkins of Ridgefield, Kris Fuller of Woodland, and Kara Perrault of Battle Ground, step-son Ken Larson of Oregon, brother Troy Ellis, aunt Betty Stine of Battle Ground, 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

IAN LARSON
Ian Marshall Larson, 26, died Jan. 26, 2008, in Vancouver.
Larson was born March 28, 1981, in Portland. He lived all his life in the Portland-Vancouver area. He worked as a plumber. He enjoyed nature, climbing, hiking, kayaking, snowboarding, going to the beach and music. He loved being with his family, friends and children.
Survivors include mother Kathleen Larson, at home, father Jon Kappleman of Portland, daughter Lillian Larson of Vancouver, brothers Rick Larson and Ira Larson, both of Vancouver, grandmother Patricia Hicks of California, and aunts and uncle.
Graveside service was held at Fern Prairie Cemetery in Camas, with Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Camas, in charge of arrangements.

BRENT LARWICK
Brent Lee Larwick, 22, died April 30, 2007, in an industrial accident in Bremerton.
Larwick was born June 16, 1984, in Portland, to Loran and Jane Larwick of Brush Prairie. He graduated from Prairie High School in 2002 and Avista Line School in 2003. He worked for Potelco in Bremerton.
Larwick is remembered as a joker who lived life to the fullest. He was a loyal friend. He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed rock climbing and virtually anything that was fun and exciting.
Survivors include parents Loran and Jane Larwick of Brush Prairie, and brother and sister-in-law Lance and Ali Larwick.
Services were held at New Heights Baptist Church in Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

BEA LAWFFER
Beatrice “Bea” Blanche Lawffer, 82, died Feb. 11, 2008, in Woodland.
Lawffer was born Dec. 30, 1925, in Earlimart, CA, and lived in Amboy for 66 years. She enjoyed cooking, cake decorating, embroidery, and traveling with her family. She was a member of the Mt. Valley Grange, Order of Eastern Star, Moose Lodge, Ladies of Elks, and the North Clark Historical Museum.
Lawffer worked at Amboy School from 1958 to 1960, and was a self-employed cake decorator.
Lawffer was preceded in death by her husband, William C. Lawffer, in 1989, son Bill Lawffer in 2007, and grandson Canton Lawffer in 2002. Survivors include daughter Dollie Wills-Jones of Oregon, son Randy Lawffer of Amboy, sisters Opal Messner of Amboy and Mildred Bjorkman of Vancouver, brother George “Bud” Beebe of Oregon, caregiver and daughter-in-law Linda Lawffer of Amboy, 12 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

WILLIAM LAWFFER
William George “Little Bill” Lawffer, 62, died Nov. 17, 2006, in Seattle.
Lawffer was born Oct. 14, 1944, in Vancouver, grew up in Amboy, and graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1963. He attended Clark College, pursuing a degree in art.
Lawffer served four years in the U.S. Army, including one tour in Vietnam. After the Army, he moved to Tacoma.
Survivors include mother Bea Lawffer of Amboy, sister Dollie Jones of Oregon, brother Randy Lawffer of Amboy, daughters Quinn Wise of Portland and Allegha Lawffer, former wife Sharon Clauznitzer of Alaska, two grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and friends.
Acacia Funeral Home, Lake Forest Park, is in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

VIVIAN LEININGER
Vivan Margaret (Volentine) Leininger, 83, died June 18, 2007, in Vancouver.
Leininger was born Jan. 22, 1924, in Burt, Iowa, and lived in Clark County since 1961, the last 2 1/2 years in Vancouver.
Leininger enjoyed reading the Bible, recipes, canning and scrapbooking. She loved flowers.
Leininger was preceded in death by son Dean J. Leininger in 1974. Survivors include widower Robert Leininger of Vancouver, sons Charles Leininger of Battle Ground, Kenneth Leininger of Washougal, and James Leininger of White Salmon, eight grandchildren and several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

ALICE LEHNER
Alice Ruth (Meier) Lehner, 84, died July 21, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Lehner was born Sept. 17, 1922, in Battle Ground, and lived her entire life in Clark County, including 64 years at her Battle Ground residence.
Lehner was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Battle Ground. She enjoyed gardening, crocheting and reading. She was a Mariners fan. She graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1940.
Lehner was preceded in death by her husband, John Lehner, in 1994, son Dan Lehner in 1993 and daughter Mary Pierce in 2005. Survivors include sons John Lehner, Paul Lehner, Michael Lehner, Pat Lehner, Brian Lehner, and Peter Lehner, all of Battle Ground, daughters Kathryn Brown of Battle Ground, and Elaine Nickelson and Ellen Harris, both of Woodland, brother John Meier, 21 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
A funeral mass will be held Sat., July 28, 10 a.m., at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Battle Ground, with interment at Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.

MARGARET LEHNER
Margaret Agnes (Tarp) Lehner, 90, died May 27, 2007, in Goldendale.
Lehner was born Nov. 9, 1916, in Purcell, OK, and lived in Caldwell, ID. She married William Lehner and moved to Ridgefield, then to Portland.
Lehner was a member of the Ridgefield Garden Club, past president of the PTA, past president of St. Mary’s Altar Society, and secretary of the “Over 50” Club.
Lehner was preceded in death by her husband, William Lehner, in 1984. Survivors include sons Edward Lehner of Goldendale and James Lehner of Hawaii, sister Mary Armstrong of Oregon, six grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Ridgefield, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

GARY LIEN
Gary Douglas Lien, 72, died Dec. 8, 2006, in Kalama.
Lien was born Jan. 21, 1934, in Minneapolis, MN. He owned and operated a speedometer service business in Vancouver from 1965 until 1990. He moved to Kalama in 1991.
Lien served in the Air Force during the Korean War. He was a member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Kelso, the Camas Moose Lodge and the VFW in Kalama. He was a 32nd degree mason.
Lien enjoyed spending winters in Mexico, and fishing with his friend Mirl Trusley.
Lien was preceded in death by brother Russ Lien. Survivors include widow Eunice Lien, at home in Kalama, son Richard Johnson of Amboy, daughters Connie Dean of Kalama, Debbie Sampson of Camas and Valerie Blackburn of Vancouver, seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sun., Dec. 17, 11 a.m., at the Kelso Seventh-day Adventist Church, 77 Soloman Rd., Kelso, with Davies Cremation & Burial Services in charge of arrangements.

BETTY LITTELL

Betty Jane Littell, 80, died June 11, 2008, in a Portland Hospital.


Littell was born Feb. 9, 1928, in Jolliet, IL, where she graduated from high school. She lived most of her life in Riverside, CA. She was an acrobatic dancer who had toured Central America, Mexico and Cuba. She married L.G. Littell in 1949.


Littell had worked for the Riverside police department and retired as a police administrator. She loved to shop.


Littell had moved from Riverside to live with her daughter, Annette Burchell of Battle Ground, on June 3, 2008.


Littell was preceded in death by her husband, L.G. Littell, in 1966, and son John Littell in 2004. Survivors include daughter Annette Burchell of Battle Ground and son Ray Littell of California.


A funeral service was held in California. Evergreen Staples Funeral Chapel of Vancouver was in charge of arrangements.

THELMA LOFGREN

Thelma Alice (Blystone) Lofgren, 88, died April 4, 2008, in Vancouver.


Lofgren was born April 15, 1919, in Battle Ground, and was a lifetime resident of Clark County, living in Battle Ground. She lived in Vancouver the last five months. 


Lofgren attended Battle Ground High School. She enjoyed flower gardening, reading, canning, jigsaw puzzles, needlework and playing pinochle. She had worked as a retail sales clerk, and had worked for Ag-Co in Battle Ground and K-Mart in Vancouver.


Lofgren was preceded in death by her first husband, George “Phil” Hale, in 1965. Survivors include widower George Lofgren, at home, son Larry Hale of Vancouver, daughters Lena McCafferty and Linda Mattila, both of Vancouver, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.


Memorial services will be held Sat., April 12, 11 a.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home Chapel, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

DON LOHN
Don Paul Lohn, 58, died April 4, 2008, in Vancouver.
Lohn was born Aug. 2, 1949, in Fergus Falls, MN, and lived in Clark County for 20 years, the last two years in Battle Ground.
Lohn served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He enjoyed golfing, hockey, T-ball, football, softball and coaching baseball. He also enjoyed home improvement projects.
Lohn worked as a caregiver in the health care industry.
Survivors include children Melissa Lohn of Vancouver, and Jordyn Lohn and Mikal Lohn, both of Battle Ground, brothers David Lohn of Arizona and Jon Lohn of Camas, significant other Sandy Schilling of Vancouver, and grandchild Layna Lohn of Vancouver.
Graveside services were held at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

CHARLES LUEBBERT
Charles Louis Luebbert, 76, died Feb. 7, 2008 in Vancouver. Luebbert was born Oct. 8, 1931 in Oakland, CA. He lived in Battle Ground for 18 years until moving to Vancouver about three years ago. He was a Pacific Northwest resident since 1963.
Following service in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War, Luebbert earned a bachelor’s degree at San Jose State University. He worked more than 30 years for the Daimler Benz Motor Company, becoming a vice president for the firm and an affiliate company, the Freightliner Corporation. Following corporate life, Luebbert operated his own consulting company for several years.
Luebbert was a member of the Battle Ground Community United Methodist Church, Marine Corps League, and the American Legion, and a supporter of area food banks. He was devoted to self-improvement, and earned a master’s degree in business administration at Harvard University. He enjoyed world-wide travel with his wife.
Luebbert was preceded in death by brother, Peter Luebbert. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Marjorie Luebbert of Vancouver, daughter, Arleen Daugherty of Oregon, sons Cliff Luebbert of Vancouver and Ron Luebbert of California, sisters
Lucy Sanders of California and Mary Ann Schumacher of Utah, brothers Joseph Luebbert and Robert Luebbert, both of California, and four grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Wed., Feb. 13, 1 a.m., at the Battle Ground

GARY LUKE
Gary L. Luke, 63, died Nov. 7, 2007, at home in Woodland.
Luke was born Aug. 20, 1944, in Claremore, OK. He served in the Navy during the Vietnam War. He was a former member of the Professional Bowlers Association. For 15 years, he worked for the Circle K convenience store in Ridgefield, retiring in 2006. He was a member of the Vancouver Rodeo Committee, the Clark County Saddle Club, and the Clark County Fair Mounted Patrol.
Luke was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Luke, mother Pearl Luke, sister Shirley Green and son Gary Luke Jr. Survivors include widow Patti Luke of Woodland, daughter Judy Yamada of Arizona, son Emerson Luke at home in Woodland, and one granddaughter.

DONNA LUND
Donna “mom” (Bossart) Lund, 76, died Oct. 8, 2007, at home.
Lund was born in San Diego, CA. She loved her bowling leagues, pinochle clubs, trips to the casino and spending time with friends and family. She had a way of looking on the bright side of life.
Lund was preceded in death by her husband, Donald E. Lund, daughter Janet Lund, and brother Albert Bossart Jr. Survivors include daughter Deann Seymer of Randle, sons Donald Lund of Tacoma, Daniel Lund of Roy and Dennis Lund of Stanwood, step-mother Mattie Bossart of Texas, sisters Georgia Etheridge and Susan Cavazas, both of Texas, Victoria Lund of Pasco, and Cheryl Starnes of Arkansas, brothers Anthony Bossart of Arizona, Stephen Bossart and Patrick Bossart, both of Texas, and Bryan Raber of California, 15 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, and her dog Edith.
A service is set for Sat., Oct. 27, 2 p.m., at Silverbrook Cemetery, Randle, with a potluck celebration of life set for the Cascade Peaks Resort Lodge.

WALLACE LUND
Wallace G. “Wally” Lund, 86, died Dec. 11, 2007, in La Center.
Lund was born April 10, 1921, in Clark County, and lived in Clark County for 63 years.
Lund enjoyed tending his large garden, canning fruits and vegetables, picking huckleberries, and camping throughout the northwest. He also enjoyed building projects and fixing old appliances. He had worked for Northwest Marine and Willamette Iron as a steel ship repairman. He had also worked as a bus driver in La Center and for Clark County Public Works.
Lund was preceded in death by brother Edgar Lund, daughter Darlene Ramsey and grandson Travis. Survivors include widow Daisy Lund of La Center, daughters Janice Stumper of La Center and Rhonda Lund of Vancouver, seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Parkhill Cemetery, Vancouver, with the Vancouver Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

ARTHUR LUTJE
Arthur “Art” Clarence Lutje 97, died April 30, 2008, in Vancouver.
Lutje was born Feb. 5, 1911 in Manton, CA. A Clark County resident for the last 80 years, Lutje grew up in the View area and lived in the View/Fargher Lake area for many years. In 1948, he built his own home at the end of Hazen Road.
From 1949 until 1972, Lutje worked for the Washington Department of Transportation. He was a maintenance leadman for the Department for many years. He enjoyed fishing, playing cards, and gardening activities such as growing vegetables, berries, apple trees and dahlias.
Lutje is survived by his wife, Dorothy Lutje, of Battle Ground, daughter Susan Walker of Battle Ground, son Gerald Lutje of La Center, brother Leonard Lutje of Oregon, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Fri., May 9, 2008, 1 p.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home Chapel, Battle Ground. Interment at Mt. View Cemetery, Amboy, will follow the service. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements

MARY LUTTRELL


Mary Evelyn (Moore) Luttrell, 87, died April 16, 2008, in Battle Ground.


Luttrell was born April 19, 1920, in Lewisville, and was a lifetime resident of Clark County, the last 32 years in Battle Ground.


Luttrell enjoyed flowers, sewing, cooking and old television shows, including Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune. She was an avid reader and liked Danielle Steele and daily word searches. She liked traveling.


Luttrell had operated the liquor store in Battle Ground for 20 years, Hadleys Beauty Shop in Battle Ground, and a beauty shop in Vancouver.


Luttrell was preceded in death by her first husband, Melvin Brigham, in 1948, and second husband, Harold Luttrell, in 1999. Survivors include son Melvin Luttrell of Battle Ground, daughter Christine Cargile of Battle Ground, four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, four step-great-grandsons, and cousins.

KAREN LUTZ
Karen Joanne (Mattox) Lutz, 52, died Dec. 21, 2006, in Longview.
Lutz was born June 2, 1954, in Portland, She managed a gasoline service station. She enjoyed landscaping, garage sales and watching television. She last lived in Woodland.
Survivors include sons Derek Lutz Jr. and Gabriel Lutz, both of Portland, brothers David Mattox and Doug Mattox, both of Portland, sisters Marcie Bennett of Woodland and Julie Martin of Portland, father Robert Mattox of Ilwaco, and one grandchild.
A memorial service will be held Sat., Jan. 13, 1 p.m., at 5203 NE Alameda Dr., Portland, with the Woodland Funeral Home, Woodland, in charge of arrangements.

JAMES LYON

James Franklin Lyon, 68, died June 18, 2008, at home in Woodland.


Lyon was born Feb. 22, 1940, in Calipatria, CA, lived in Delhi, CA, then Spokane for about 20 years, and moved to Woodland in 2000. 


Lyon worked for a trucking parts company in Spokane.


Lyon enjoyed fishing, hunting, boating and gardening. He was a member of the Elks Lodge, Moose Lodge and National Rifle Association. He was the caretaker at Happa Park.


Lyon was preceded in death by brother Robert Lyon. Survivors include widow Glenna Lyon, at home in Woodland, sons Anthony Lyon and Aaron Lyon, both of California, and Monte Lyon of Spokane, daughter Jenice Coker of Spokane, step-son Jim Renard of California, step-daughter Kathy Sprague of California, six grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren.
