DONALD KALLIO
Donald James Kallio, 85, died May 11, 2007, in Woodland.
Kallio was born March 17, 1922, in Kettle River, MN, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He moved to Woodland after the war ended. He worked in logging and was a dry kiln operator in a sawmill.
Kallio was preceded in death by his wife, Delores, in 2005. Survivors include sons Wayne Kallio, Bruce Kallio and Donald Kallio, all of Kalama, brother Frank Kallio of Virginia, half-sister Gerry of Minnesota, three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at a later date, with the Woodland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
MARY KANDOLL
Mary Irene (Matson) Kandoll, 75, died Aug. 17, 2007, in Astoria, OR.
Kandoll was born March 17, 1932, in Battle Ground, attended Battle Ground schools, and moved to Rosburg where she lived for 54 years. She had an adventurous spirit. She loved music and singing to God’s praises. She was an active member of the Seal River Apostolic Lutheran Church. She was deeply devoted to her faith.
Kandoll was preceded in death by brothers Wes Matson and Don Matson, sisters Carol Hilman and Betty West, and grandsons Shane Herriges and Troy Kandoll. Survivors include husband Ted Kandoll of Rosburg, sons Dan Kandoll of Kalama, Sam Kandoll of New Hampshire, Roy Kandoll of Battle Ground, Tim Kandoll of Yacolt and Ben Kandoll of Amboy, daughters Anna Hermary of Canada, Martha Wagner of Longview, Rhoda Kandoll of Vancouver, Eva Niemela and Ruth Waineo, both of Michigan, Beth Johnson and Louise Johnson, both of Oregon, Leah West of South Dakota, Kristina Perez of Seaview, Joy Fraki of Minnesota and Karen Kern of Alaska, brothers Lew Matson of Battle Ground, Lee Matson of Canada, Jim Matson of Brush Prairie and Chuck Matson of Yacolt, sisters Marge Staudinger and Rhoda Olin, both of Canada, 75 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

ROSE KARVONEN
Rose (Maly) Karvonen, 94, died, Feb. 27, 2008, in Vancouver.
She was born Oct. 29, 1913, in Weston, NE, and lived in Clark County for 51 years, the last 22 months in Vancouver.
As a young women, Karvonen was employed as a school teacher. She married Vaino Karvonen October 1948 in Minnesota.
She was also a homemaker who enjoyed crocheting, gardening, craft work, reading, collecting flower seeds and spending time with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, and grandson Terence Karvonen. Survivors include her son, Leonard Karvonen of Battle Ground, three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services will be held Wed., March 5, 10 a.m., at Elim Cemetery, Brush Prairie. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.
DEWAYNE KENDALL
DeWayne Arthur Kendall, 60, died March 14, 2008, in Vancouver.
Kendall was born April 29, 1947, in Spokane, grew up on a wheat ranch in Hartline, WA, and graduated from Central Washington University in 1969. He married Jackie Dooley on the day of college graduation and moved to Battle Ground. He taught social studies at Battle Ground High School. In 1980 he began teaching at Prairie High School and was the first boys’ basketball coach at Prairie. He retired in 2004.
Kendall enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, reading and traveling. His big brother got him interested in hunting when he was a small boy. He collected coins. He was a member of the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and Yacolt Hunters Club. He was active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Battle Ground.
Kendall was preceded in death by his sisters Barbara Jean Weber and Marchelle Marr. Survivors include widow Jackie, at home, son Joseph Kendall of Vancouver, daughter Jessica Kendall of Pomeroy, brother Bernard Kendall of Wilbur, WA, brother-in-law Ed Dooley of Sequim, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be held Sat., April 5, 1 p.m., at St. Mary of Guadalupe, 1605 NE 65th Ave., Ridgefield, with burial at Hartline. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.
ELMA KEISALA
Elma Regina (Saari) Keisala, 86, died Jan. 25, 2008, in Edmonds.
Keisala was born Feb. 12, 1921, in Red Lodge, MT. She lived in the Woodland area for 75 years.
Keisala worked in the poultry business for 20 years and was known as The Egg Lady in Woodland and Kalama. She also worked at Lamiglas for 13 years as a pole wrapper, retiring in 1987.
Keisala was a member of the Finish Lodge, garden club and Woodland Senior Center. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting afghans and sweaters. She also liked old music and family gatherings.
Keisala was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Keisala Sr., son Walter Keisala Jr., grandson Adrian Keisala, granddaughter Morna Keisala, great-granddaughter Katie Callahan, brother Leonard Saari and sister Viola Rasmussen. Survivors include daughter Karen Buxton of Edmonds, sister Betty Youngblood of Longview, brother Bob Wallila of Woodland, seven grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
Interment was at Frank Abel Cemetery, Woodland, with the Woodland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
NETTIE KELLEY
Nettie M. (Swadley) Kelley, 96, died Nov. 1, 2006, in Vancouver.
Kelley was born Aug. 8, 1910, in Canyonville, OR, and lived in Clark County for 50 years, the past 27 years in Battle Ground.
Kelley attended Battle Ground Methodist Church. She enjoyed crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles and eating out.
Kelley was preceded in death by her husband, William Kelley, in 1986. Survivors include sons John Kelley of Vancouver and Bill Kelley of Olympia, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and 13 step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Memory Memorial Park Cemetery, Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
KEITH KELLY
Keith Kelly, 52, died Feb. 5, 2007, at home in Yacolt.
Kelly was born March 27, 1954, in Corona, CA. He was an avid outdoors man and loved to fish and hunt, especially with bow and arrow.
Kelly was always helping others. He loved his Harley motorcycles and could fix anything. He worked as a logger and a mechanic.
Survivors include son Gregory Kelly of California, daughter Logan Kelly of Vancouver, parents Duane and Florrine Kelly of California, brother Kevin Kelly of Colorado, and sister Zandra Karvelot of California.
A memorial service will be held at a later date. Cascadia Cremation & Burial Services of Vancouver is in charge of arrangements.
EVANGELINE KENNEDY
Evangeline “Evie” Marie Gustafson Kennedy, 23 days
old, died Dec. 10, 2007, at Children’s Memorial Hospital
in Chicago, IL, from complications from open heart surgery.
Evangeline was born Nov. 17, 2007, in Chicago. She was
born with a heart defect discovered two days after birth. She
underwent a lengthy and complicated surgery from which
she was not able to recover. She met her grandparents and many
other visitors during her stay in the hospital.
Survivors include parents Matthew and Nicole Kennedy
of Chicago, and grandparents Paul and Norma Kennedy of
Amboy and Marvin and Gayle Gustafson of Minnesota.
Interment was at Hope Cemetery in Roseau, MN.
AGNES KETOLA
Agnes (Herz) Ketola, 90, died March 14, 2007, in Vancouver.
Ketola was born Jan. 13, 1917, in Glen Ulen, ND, where she grew up. She attended school to the eighth grade. She earned a high school degree through mail order classes in the 1950s.
Ketola moved to Battle Ground in 1935. She worked in the shipyards during World War II.
Ketola and her husband, Ivan Ketola, ran a gas and service station in Battle Ground.
After raising their family, Ivan and Agnes Ketola moved to California, then returned to Battle Ground in the late 1960s. Years later, Ketola moved to Vancouver.
Ketola enjoyed gardening. She also enjoyed traveling and made trips to Alaska, Europe, Mexico and Central America. She sailed through the Panama Canal. Pinochle was her favorite card game and for years she played in weekly games.
Ketola was an active volunteer and volunteered in her church. She was a member of AARP. She was named Outstanding Senior Achievement Honoree by Clark County Counsel for the Aging in 2001.
Ketola married Ivan Ketola in 1939. They were divorced in 1961 and re-married in 1963. They divorced again in 1985. Ivan Ketola died in 1995.
Ketola was preceded in death by brothers Alphonse Herz, Joseph Hertz, Valentine Herz, William Hertz, Victor Hertz and infant Walter Herz, and sisters Barbara Emter, Kathryn Hertz and Eleanor Stading. Survivors include daughters Tamara Auburg of Vancouver and Ginger-Lea Bryant of Arizona, sisters Regina Studer of Vancouver and Arlene Holmack of Longview, brother Clarence Herz of Brush Prairie, four grandchildren and four great-granddaughters.
Funeral services will be held Wed., March 21, 10 a.m., at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 6600 Highland Dr., Vancouver. Final interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, 1101 NE 112th Ave., Vancouver, at 12:30 p.m., with Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.
LAWRENCE KIGHT
Lawrence “Larry” R. Kight, 67, died Feb. 29, 2008, in Vancouver.
Kight was born March 14, 1940, in Stockton, CA, and lived in Battle Ground off and on since 1947. He was a caretaker in equestrian specialities training, a laborer and handyman. He enjoyed woodworking, watching old western movies and going on scenic drives.
Survivors include widow Jeanette Kight, at home in Battle Ground, sons Roger Kight of Arizona, and John Kight and Mike Kight, both of Oregon, daughter Karen Cottrell of Nevada, step-sons Daniel Tucker and Jeremy Tucker, both of Battle Ground, Corey Tucker of Vancouver and Josh Tucker of Ridgefield, 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

EVELYN KIGHTLINGER
Evelyn Margaret (Bennett) Kightlinger, 93, died June 6, 2007, in Vancouver.
Kightlinger was born Jan. 24, 1914, in Sioux City, Iowa, and lived in Clark County for four years.
Kightlinger enjoyed fishing. She worked as a seamstress for Jantzen Knitting Mills.
Kightlinger was preceded in death by her husband, Delmas Kightlinger. Survivors include son Jerry Kightlinger of Battle Ground, three grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

PHYLLIS KINGDON
Phyllis Mae (Reinhart) Kingdon, 78, died June 9, 2007, in Amboy.
Kingdon was born July 4, 1928, in Brimfield, IL, and lived in Clark County for 24 years, the past 17 years in Amboy.
Kingdon was a good cook. She enjoyed traveling, camping, western movies, John Wayne and Lawrence Welk. She worked as an accountant in the plywood industry.
Kingdon was preceded in death by brothers Wilson, Maynard, Bob and Dick, and sister Earline. Survivors include widower John Kingdon, at home, daughter Cheryl Stockman of California, sons David Kingdon of Amboy and Steve Kingdon of California, sisters Margaret, Willadeane, Bertha and Carol, seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in California, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
EARL KLEVEN
Earl Gordon Kleven, 75, died Feb. 10, 2007, in Vancouver.
Kleven was born Sept. 26, 1931, in Kennedy, MN, and lived in Clark County for 45 years. He worked for International Paper Company in Amboy until it closed in 1979. He retired from Vanexco in Vancouver.
Kleven served in the Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, cutting wood and spending time with his grandsons. He also enjoyed traveling to Arizona in the winters.
Kleven was preceded in death by two sisters and nine brothers. Survivors include widow Esther Kleven, at home in Vancouver, daughter Barbara Kujava of Battle Ground, sons Mark Kleven and Jeff Kleven, both of Vancouver, brother Miles Kleven of Minnesota, sister Mae Newell of Minnesota, four grandsons and one step-grandson.

KATHLEEN KOETHE
Kathleen “Kathy” Louise (Sheldon) Koethe, 62, died Aug. 27, 2007, in Ridgefield.
Koethe was born April 3, 1945, in La Center, and was a lifelong resident of Clark County, living the last 11 years in Ridgefield.
Koethe was very family-oriented, loved her grandchildren, and liked housekeeping, cooking and gardening. She enjoyed traveling, including going to the beach.
Survivors include widower Joel R. Koethe Sr., at home in Ridgefield, sons Joel Koethe Jr. of Woodland and Samuel Koethe of Longview, daughter Shawn Koethe of Ridgefield, mother Wilma Sheldon of Battle Ground, sisters Delpha Schmidt, Linda Wallway and Thelma Currie, all of Vancouver, Elizabeth Martin and Juanita Castner, both of Ridgefield, and Susan Davis of Battle Ground, brothers Dale Sheldon of Battle Ground and David Sheldon of Woodland, and five grandchildren.

LOUIS KOR
Louis Mark Kor, 52, died Nov. 29, 2007, at home in Yacolt.
Kor was born July 31, 1955, in Vancouver, and lived in Vancouver until moving to Yacolt 17 years ago.
Kor worked as a bricklayer for 30 years. He won the Hammurabie Award, a prestigious craftsmanship honor in masonry.
Kor enjoyed horses, Harley-Davidson motorcycles, traveling and the Arizona desert.
Survivors include widow Mary Kor, at home in Yacolt, daughters Rachel Kor of Florida, Lisa Legitt of Vancouver, and Tiffany Satrapa of Yacolt, brothers Allan Kor and John Kor, both of Oregon, Bob Kor of Hawaii, and Larry Kor of Vancouver, sisters Theresa Rhodes of Vancouver and Karen Peck of Indiana, two grandchildren and 31 nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver, with Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.
CHARLOTTE KORPELA
Charlotte Mae (Baysden) Korpela, 90, died Feb. 27, 2007, in Vancouver.
Korpela was born June 17, 1916, in Ernul, NC, and lived in Brush Prairie for 6 1/2 years. She was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Korpela was preceded in death by her husband, Allen, in 1995, son Fremont in 1996, and daughter Gail Hammack in 1997. Survivors include son Al “Butch” Korpela of Brush Prairie, daughters Pauline Taylor of Tennessee and Susan Hollett of Vancouver, sister Sybil McBride of North Carolina, 18 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Fort Custer National Cemetery in Battle Creek, Michigan, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
DENNY KREGER SR.
Dennis Wayne Kreger Sr., 60, died Oct. 11, 2007, at home in Ridgefield.
Kreger was born Feb. 20, 1947, in Sheridan, Wyoming and graduated from Sheridan High School in 1965. He spent his last 42 years in Ridgefield where he raised his family with his first wife, Colleen, and established a career as a machinist.
Kreger enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening.
Kreger was preceded in death by his first wife Colleen. Survivors include his wife Bobbie Jackson Kreger, sons Dennis Kreger Jr., Jason Kreger, Mathew Jackson, and Scott Jackson, daughters Tammy Angvall, Laurie Vandermeulen, Shelly Dunn, Lynne Jones and Molly Philips, and 21 grandchildren.

ADA KURTTI
Ada Margaret (Smith) Kurtti, 92, died Jan. 21, 2008, in Tualatin, OR.
Kurtti was born April 1, 1915, in Pendleton, OR, and lived in Battle Ground for the past two years.
Kurtti graduated from Battle Ground High School and was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Hockinson. She played the piano, was a good seamstress and cook, loved reading and knitting, and enjoyed history and flower gardening. She also enjoyed entertaining.
Kurtti was preceded in death by her husband, Rafael W. Kurtti, in 2006, son Stephen Kurtti in 1968 and daughter Sara Kurtti in 1957. Survivors include daughters Susan Staudinger and Julie Schaaff, both of Battle Ground, Ruth Anne Hilman, Rebecca Kurtti and Phebe Johnson, all of Oregon, Mary Bell of Seattle, and Elizabeth Staudinger of Canada, son James Kurtti of California, 27 grandchildren, 49 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
Burial was at Finn Hill Cemetery, Brush Prairie, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
DAVID KYSAR
David Leroy Kysar, 68, died of Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis Jan. 18, 2008, at home in Yacolt.
Kysar was born Sept. 25, 1939, in Vancouver, and lived in Clark County his entire life. He was a timber cutter for 20 years, and then operated Dave’s Custom Cabinets from which he retired.
Kysar loved the outdoors, traveling and being with his family and friends. He was a lifelong member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. He was known for handing out gum to little children.
Kysar was preceded in death by his parents, James and Edel Kysar, brother Loren Kysar, sister Cindy Tormanen, and grandsons Louis Kysar and Caden Cahoon. Survivors include wife of 43 years Linda Kysar, at home in Yacolt, sons Dan Kysar, Derek Kysar and Logan Kysar, all of Yacolt, daughters Molly Kangas and Lucy Cahoon, both of Yacolt, brothers Dan Kysar, Jay Kysar, and Ed Kysar, all of Amboy, Jon Kysar of Yacolt, and Henry Kysar of Long Beach, sisters Emily Sarkinen of Battle Ground, Kathryn Bean of Woodland, Marie Rotschy of Yacolt and Becky Abernathy of Montana, 39 grandchildren, one great-grandchild and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Interment was at Yacolt Cemetery, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.
