MARIAN GANS
Marian Koitzsch Gans, 85, died April 27, 2007 in Vancouver.
Born Feb. 6, 1922 in Battle Ground, Gans lived her entire life in Battle Ground and worked for 38 years at Al and Ernies Foodliner.
Gans enjoyed bowling, trips to the beach, and collecting figurines.
Gans was preceded in death by her husband, Walter, daughter Joanne Davies, son-in-law Richard Davies, brothers Norman and Bill Koitzsch, and sister Winnie (Dobbins) Rodgers. Survivors include daughter and son-in-law, Janice and Dale Banning of Battle Ground, sister Hazel Larsen of Portland, OR, grandchildren Steven (Peggy) Davies, Gary (Janet) Davies, Randy Davies, Jeff Banning, Andria (Phil) Regalado, five great-grandchildren, three great-great grandchildren and special friends Ron and Judy Lahmann.
A memorial service will be held at Layne’s Funeral Home in Battle Ground, Thurs., May 3, at 2 p.m., followed by a potluck reception at Eagles Hall in Battle Ground. Private services will be held at the Lewisville Cemetery. Layne’s Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.

VEIKKO GARDING
Veikko “Victor” E. Garding, 84, died Jan. 7, 2007, in Woodland.
Garding was born Oct. 21, 1922, in Lead, SD, graduated from Garfield High School in Butte, MT, and moved to Woodland in 1946. He retired as a sexton of Woodland Cemetery District 2. He enjoyed traveling, reading and cars, especially his 1966 Ford Mustang. He was a charter member of the Living Branch Lutheran Church.
Garding was preceded in death by his brother, Paul Garding, and sister Viola Carson. Survivors include several nephews, nieces, grand-nephews and one grand-niece.
Interment was at Frank Abel Cemetery, Woodland, with the Woodland Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

BERNICE GASTON
Bernice “Bea” (Barker) Gaston, 81, died July 26, 2007, at home in Yacolt.
Gaston was born Feb. 1, 1926, in Spokane.
Gaston volunteered with the Family Readiness Group, supporting the families of soldiers serving overseas. She lived in Spokane for about 17 years before moving to Yacolt about 20 years ago. She enjoyed fishing.
Gaston was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne Gaston, in 1986, and sister Roberta Feroglia. Survivors include daughters Tiesa Gaston of Yacolt, and Sandy Gaston and Tina Houston, both of Federal Way, son Ron Gaston of Vancouver, four grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
A memorial and posthumous award presentation honoring her more than 63 years of volunteer service to military families will be held Sun., Aug. 5, 10 a.m., at the Red Cross Building, 605 Barnes Rd., Vancouver Barracks, Vancouver. Burial will be next to her husband at Greenwood Memorial Terrace in Spokane.

STEVEN GEIL
Steven Earl Geil, 64, died July 5, 2007, in Ridgefield.
Geil was born Oct. 13, 1942, in Portland, and lived in Clark County for 35 years, the last 30 years at his home in Ridgefield.
Geil served in the U.S. Army in Vietnam where he was a medic. He received both the Silver Star and Purple Heart medals.
Survivors include widow Janice Geil, at home, son Matt Geil of La Center, daughters Wendy Abell of Minnesota and Joy Berg of California, sister Judy Schubert of Mesa, brothers Dan Geil of Florida, Joe Geil of Mt. Vernon and David Geil of Connell, and 10 grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sat., July 14, 1 p.m., at First Friends Church, 2710 NE 65th Ave., Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

TED GETTMAN
Theodore “Ted” Wesley Gettman, 78, died March 13, 2007, in Portland.
Gettman was born June 30, 1928, in Oakland, CA. He graduated from Woodland High School in 1946.He served in the U.S. Marine Corps in Korea. He worked as an assembly supervisor at Western Electric in Portland for over 25 years. He was a volunteer firefighter and was fire chief of Cowlitz County Fire District 1 from 1992 until 2001.
Gettman enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, hunting and gardening. He was very patriotic and active with family and community. He traveled the world, visiting China, Russia, Holland, Belgium and Thailand. He was a former member of the Elks.
Gettman was preceded in death by step-son Greg Bjur in 2003. Survivors include widow Erma Gettman of Woodland, son Dennis Gettman of Oregon, daughters Peggy Telyea and Angie Payne, both of Oregon, and Cindy Wallace of La Center, sister Barbara Schurman of Woodland, step-daughters Kristine Houston of Richland and Kenna Bjur of Portland, 28 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.
Graveside service will be held Tues., March 20, 11 a.m., at Frank Abel Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m. at Woodland Presbyterian Church, 756 Park, Woodland. Woodland Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

COY GHOLSON
Coy Gholson, 82, died Sept. 29, 2007, in Camas.
Gholson was born June 6, 1925, in Quay, NM, and lived in Ridgefield for over 30 years before moving to Camas four years ago.
Gholson served in the Navy during World War II. A construction worker until his retirement, Gholson was a 45-year member of the Local Union 701 of Portland Operating Engineers. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family.
Survivors include widow Patricia Gholson, at home in Camas, daughters Ann Gamble of Camas, Teresa Waterman of Oregon and Janet Barnes of Vancouver, sisters Bonnie Dunlap of Oregon and Peggy Clark of Cillah, WA, seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
No public services will be held, with Brown’s Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Camas, in charge of arrangements.

ADRIANA GIFFORD
Adriana “Ada” Johanna (Westdorp) Gifford, 91, died Oct. 12, 2006, in Battle Ground.
Gifford was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Kalamazoo, MI, and lived in Michigan until moving to La Center in 1979. She moved to Cherrystone Apartments in Battle Ground in 2002.
Gifford was an active volunteer for the Calhoun County Health Department in Michigan 1955-62 where she organized health care for seven rural schools. She was active in her school’s Mothers’ Club and Lutheran Ladies Aid Society. She enjoyed gardening, baking, canning, making jam and helping those less fortunate. She was a charter member of the Prince of Peace Lutheran Church in Battle Ground.
In retirement, Gifford traveled around the United States, and wintered in Florida, Texas and Arizona.
Gifford was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters. Survivors include widower Donald Gifford, at home in Battle Ground, son James Moore of Vancouver, daughters Marleen Cords of Battle Ground and Paulette Westford of Australia, brother Adrian Westdorp of Michigan, sister Connie Block of Texas, and three granddaughters.

MARY GILLETT
Mary Lou (Barr) Gillett, 78, died March 3, 2008, in Woodland.
Gillett was born May 16, 1929, in Gresham, OR, and lived in Woodland for 25 years. She was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Ladies Auxiliary of VFW 1927. She enjoyed playing cards and crocheting.
Gillett was preceded in death by her husband, John Gillett, in 2003, and brother Jack Barr in 1983. Survivors include daughters Jackie Key of Oregon and Debra Chambers, sons Gary Gillett of Woodland and John Gillett, three grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
No services are planned, with Northwood Park Cemetery, Funeral Home and Mausoleum, Ridgefield, in charge of arrangements.

VIOLET GILLIAM
Violet Virginia (Fortier) Gilliam, 95, died Feb. 1, 2007, in Vancouver.
Gilliam was born July 30, 1911, in Linton, OR, and lived in Clark County for 30 years, the last 10 years in Battle Ground.
Gilliam was a member of the Rebekkah Lodge in Kalama, Pythian Sisters, Old Time Fiddlers and Melody Makers. She was a musician and taught accordion and piano.
Gilliam owned and operated Cash and Carry Grocery Store in Kalama, and worked at Sassy Dress Shop in Vancouver.
Gilliam was preceded in death by her husband, Wesley Gilliam, and brother Orvill Fortier. Survivors include son Richard Gilliam of Battle Ground, daughters Orinne Powell of Battle Ground and Lucille McCurdy of Oregon, 13 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held Sun., Feb. 11, 1 p.m., at Manor Grange, 17910 NE 72nd Ave., Battle Ground, with private committal in Kalama Cemetery, Kalama. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, was in charge of arrangements.

GORDON GOBLE
Gordon “Mickey’’ Goble, 83, died March 17, 2008 in Vancouver.
Goble was born June 19, 1924 in Walla Walla and lived in Clark County from 1934 until the time of his death. Goble was a resident of Amboy from 1964 until 2005 and in Vancouver since 2005.
Goble enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing, clamming and was a member of the American Legion (Amboy Post) and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He served in the Army (1942-46) in France during World War II, was wounded and was awarded the Purple Heart.
Professionally, Goble spent his life working in the logging industry, including many years as an employee of the C.H. Anrys Logging Co.
Goble is preceded in death by his wife Helen, who died in 1980, as well as eight brothers and five sisters. He is survived by brother Harold Goble of Morton, son Larry Goble of Amboy and daughters Linda Harteloo of Washougal and Barbara Harlow of La Center, nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
Layne’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. A memorial service is scheduled for Saturday, March 29, 2 p.m., at the Mt. Valley Grange in Amboy. Interment will be at Mt. View Cemetery.

JAMES GOEPFERT
James Howard Goepfert, 73, died June 19, 2007, at home in La Center.
Goepfert was born April 3, 1934, in Fresno, CA, grew up in Portland, and graduated from Central Catholic High School. He earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Portland. He served in the Air Force for about 13 years.
Goepfert worked for various companies as a salesman. In 1985, he was voted Salesman of the Year with Herschel Industries. He moved to La Center in 1994. He was a member of the Million Dollar Club in 1998.
Goepfert collected miniature airplanes. He loved wolves and raised Siberian Huskies.
Survivors include widow Martha, at home in La Center, son Dr. Cary Goepfert of California, daughters Tressa Hill of California and Elizabeth Swanson of Portland, and three grandchildren.
A memorial mass will be held Sat., July 28, 2 p.m., at St. Rose of Lima Parish, 2727 NE 54th Ave., Portland, with private inurnment at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

JAMES GOVERNOR
James Edward Governor, 62, died of leukemia April 19, 2008, in Vancouver.
Governor was born Jan. 19, 1946, in Vancouver, lived in California and Camas, and the last 12 years in La Center. He served in the U.S. Navy. He was a Master Gardener and a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, horseback riding, camping and building. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and had worked as a heavy equipment operator.
Governor was preceded in death by his father, Cecil Governor, in 2002, step-father Dan Wilson in 2003, and brother-in-law Cecil Harbour in 2007. Survivors include widow Daniella Governor, at home in La Center, son Shane Governor of La Center, daughter Meagan Governor of La Center, step-son Keith Holland of California, mother Barbara Wilson of California, sisters Cheryl Harbour, Linda Parrish and Allene Keenan, all of California, brother Rick Wilson of California, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
Interment was at Willamette National Cemetery, Portland, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

WILMA GREEN
Wilma Jane (Weber) Green, 70, died July 7, 2007, in Oxnard, CA.
Green was born Nov. 2, 1936, in Vancouver. She lived in Ridgefield and Long Beach before moving to attend the University of Washington where she earned a science degree in 1959. She went on to earn a master’s degree in computing science in 1968 from the University of Alberta. She worked as a research engineer in California, tutor and teaching assistant in Canada, mathematics instructor, and other positions.
Green was a member of the Screen Actors Guild, Daughters of the American Revolution, American Association of University Women and Association of Computing Machinery.
Green was preceded in death by brother Halsey Weber who died as an infant. Survivors include husband Ira Green, at home in Sherman Oaks, CA, daughters Elizabeth McKinney and Sheila Perletti, son Michael McKinney, sister Irene Simmons, brothers David Weber, Gary Weber and Vince Weber, and 10 grandchildren.
Burial was at Ridgefield Cemetery, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

ROBERT GREENEN
Robert R. Greenen, 78, died June 1, 2007, in Vancouver.
Greenen was born March 25, 1929, in Remsen, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard for active duty and reserves. He retired after working for Clark Public Utilities for 30 years.
Greenen was preceded in death by his wife, Georgia, in 1990, and two brothers. Survivors include sons Dave Greenen of Everett, and Richard Greenen of Yacolt, sister Maxine Brown, brothers Ronald Greenen and Terrance Greenen, and one grandson.

GWENDOLYN GREGG
Gwendolyn (Shannon) Gregg, 94, died Jan. 11, 2007, in Vancouver.
Gregg was born Aug. 14, 1912, in Dean Lake, MO, and lived in Clark County for 80 years, the past 26 years in Camas. She previously lived in Yacolt.
Gregg worked as a cook for Rose Valley School District for several years. She was considered a great cook, and wonderful hostess. She was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church in St. Helens, OR.
Survivors include daughter Patricia Smith of Cathlamet, step-children Sharon Tiffany of Camas, Eda Otto, Gaynel Smith and Carol Larsen, six grandchildren, 14 step-grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held at Yacolt Cemetery, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

JOHN GRIFFITH
John Henry Griffith, 90, died March 11, 2007, in Vancouver.
Griffith was born Feb. 21, 1917, in LaCross, Wisconsin, and moved with his family to Canada in 1921 where he stayed until 21 years old.
Griffith settled in Portland in 1942. He moved to Battle Ground in 1950 where he lived for over 50 years.
Griffith started his own crankshaft grinding and engine rebuilding business in Portland in the late 1940s. He bought his first airplane in 1958 and became a private pilot. He retired in the early 1980s and enjoyed his horses, mules, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved to visit with anyone who would talk with him.
Griffith was preceded in death by his wife, Cleo, in 1992. Survivors include daughter Dorothy Kuehnel of Portland, son John Griffith of Vancouver, sister Faith Wresch, brothers Arthur Griffith and Lloyd Griffith, three grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and seven nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Sat., March 17, 3 p.m., at Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church, Battle Ground, with private interment at Mt. View Cemetery, Amboy. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements.

BILL GOLDSWORTH
William A. “Bill” Goldsworth, 53, died at home in Battle Ground Dec. 9, 2006.
Goldsworth was born Nov. 20, 1953, in Cleveland, OH. He moved with his family at age 3 to Sacramento, CA. He attended the Columbia School of Broadcasting in California and worked as a disc jockey in small markets in northern California and in Toppenish, WA. He operated an antique store in Yakima. He took up carpentry in 1979. He moved to Virginia in 1985 and continued to work as a carpenter. He moved to Battle Ground in 1990 and opened his own general contracting business, Colonial Northwest. He retired in 2005.
Goldsworth enjoyed music and playng the guitar. He also enjoyed baseball, especially the Mariners and Mets. He went to garage and estate sales and sold items on eBay. He was a Power Seller on eBay since 2001. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting and rockhounding.
Goldsworth was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Jean Goldsworth, in 2001. Survivors include widow Shaun L. Goldsworth, at home in Battle Ground, sons Michael Goldsworth of Pullman and Stephen Goldsworth of California, daughter Ariel Goldsworth of Battle Ground, brother Bob Goldsworth of Vancouver, sister Dorothy Waddington of Ohio, father Robert A. Goldsworth Sr. of Vancouver, and four grandchildren.
A celebration of life service will be held Sat., Dec. 16, 1:30 p.m., at the Fellowship Bible Church, 21810 NE 37th Ave., Ridgefield, with Davies Cremation & Burial Services in charge of arrangements.

ROBERTA GUSTAFSON
Roberta Constance Adaline (Black) Gustafson, 90, died June 19, 2008, in Vancouver.

Gustafson was born July 3, 1917, in Lincoln, Nebraska, and lived in Battle Ground for the past 29 years.

Gustafson was a member of the Hockinson Heights Seventh-day Adventist Church. She enjoyed making afghans and baking. She was a skilled seamstress and an avid reader.

Gustafson was preceded in death by son Evan Gustafson in 1950 and daughter Evelynn Pasillas in 1986. Survivors include husband Harold L. Gustafson, at home in Battle Ground, daughters Wilma Lorenz of Oklahoma and Moodene Johnson of Battle Ground, brother Robert Black of California, several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sat., July 12, at the Hockinson Seventh-day Adventist Church, with the time yet to be set. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, is in charge of arrangements, 687-3143.

LISA GUTHRIE
Lisa Rachelle Guthrie, 40, died Jan. 24, 2008, in Vancouver.
Guthrie was born Feb. 27, 1967, in Portland, and lived her whole life in Brush Prairie. She was disabled.
Guthrie was born with spina bifida and lost her sight at age 5. She graduated from the Washington School for the Blind in 1988. She had worked at Goodwill, K-Mart and Domino’s Pizza.
Guthrie was part of a group that reenacted the Civil War. She had gone ocean fishing. She loved country music, animals and playing cards.
Survivors include parents Norman and Rachel Guthrie of Brush Prairie, sister Andrea Turvey of Battle Ground, brother Norman Chad Guthrie of Brush Prairie, and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Sat., Feb. 2, 3 p.m., at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, Burial will take place at La Center Cemetery.

TERRY GWINN
Terry D. Gwinn, 67, died July 2, 2007, in Bowman, ND.
Gwinn was born July 3, 1939, in Spokane, and graduated from Gonzaga Preparatory School in 1957. In his younger years, he enjoyed bicycling, hiking, bow hunting, crafting jewelry and working with cars and hydroplanes.
Gwinn worked as an operating room technician at Sacred Heart Hospital in Spokane, and later worked in the respiratory therapy profession. He was an active member of the National Respiratory Care Association.
Gwinn moved to Eugene, OR in the 1960s, and to Vancouver about 1970. He lived in La Center since 1978.
Gwinn married Joy Dyer in 1960. He was remarried in 1978 to Linda (Kulas) Gwinn.
After retiring, Gwinn enjoyed gardening, photography, reading, visiting with family and friends, wine tasting, cooking and baking sour dough bread. He also worked for the federal Office of Personnel Management.
Survivors include widow Linda Gwinn of La Center, mother Laura Gwinn of Spokane, daughters Sherrie Mojica of La Center and Shelley Miller of Arizona, son David Gwinn of Amboy, step-son Kevin Braun of Vancouver, sister Claudia Shaw of Canada, and seven grandchildren.
Visitation will be Sun., July 15, 10 a.m.-5 p.m., at Vancouver Funeral Chapel, 110 E 12th St., Vancouver. A memorial services will be held Mon., July 16, 2 p.m., at Highland Lutheran Church near La Center.
