BURTON BABIK
Former Battle Ground High School teacher Burton Babik, 57, died Oct. 23, 2007, in Seattle, after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Babik was born April 30, 1950, in Seattle, and graduated from the University of Washington. He taught social studies, language arts and German at Battle Ground High School from 1982 until 1997. He instituted an exchange program, taking students from Battle Ground to Germany where they spent time in German households. He also brought German students to Battle Ground.
Babik worked with Frau Dechet at Prairie High School and included Prairie students in the exchange program.
Babik coached ninth grade boys basketball from 1986 until 1990. He then served as an assistant basketball coach for the girls program for several years.
Babik married in Germany in 1996. He left the Battle Ground district and started teaching and coaching in 1998 at Quilcene High School on the Olympic Peninsula near Port Townsend where he taught until his death. At Quilcene, Babik taught English, German, drama and Current World Problems.
When he became ill in 2006, Babik continued to teach while undergoing chemotherapy treatments.
Babik created a German exchange student program at Quilcene as he had at Battle Ground. Twelve German students arrived at Quilcene on Oct. 5 and are scheduled to depart on Nov. 2.
Babik coached the Quilcene girls basketball team, gaining berths in the state tournament in 2001 and 2004.
Colleagues recall that Babik demanded rigor and excellence from his students.
Babik was honored as the 2006-07 Quilcene Secondary Teacher of the Year and rode in the Quilcene Parade in September with his children.
Survivors include widow Gabi, daughter Mae and son Lou.
Community members in Quilcene have set up the Burt Babik Memorial Fund to help support his family. The fund was established at First Federal Savings.
Quilcene High School canceled classes Oct. 29 to allow students and faculty to attend Babik’s memorial service. The canceled classes will be made up in March.
Services were held at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church in Sequim. Burial was in Edmonds, with Beck’s Funeral Home, Edmonds, in charge of arrangements.

DAVID BABLER
David Carlwin Babler, 56, died of heart failure Sept. 22, 2007, in Vancouver.
Babler was born Oct. 9, 1950, in Wichita, KS, and moved to Clark County with his family in 1956. He lived in Brush Prairie until his death.
Babler enjoyed sturgeon, steelhead and trout fishing, hunting deer and elk, and fine cooking.
Babler worked as an independent hardware and software designer and engineer.
Babler was preceded in death by his mother, Anita, in 1974, and father, Winfred, in 1983. Survivors include aunts, uncles and cousins in Washington, Oregon and Kansas.

JAMES BAISDEN
James Dorse Baisden, 69, died Feb. 9, 2008, in Longview.
Baisden was born Sept. 24, 1938, in Madison, West Virginia, and lived in La Center for 20 years. He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed many summers fishing in Alaska. He was a fine mechanic and loved to restore cars and work on projects in his shop.
Baisden was a truck fleet supervisor for McCall Oil Company in Portland until retiring in 2005.
Baisden was preceded in death by brothers Larry Baisden, Darrell Baisden, Dennis Baisden, Billy Baisden, and Kenneth Baisden. Survivors include sons Jim Baisden and Tim Baisden, both of Oregon, daughter Denise Garza of Port Orchard, brother Fred Baisden of Louisiana, sisters Ann Hill of Oklahoma, and Kathaleen Brown and Joyce Rich, both of California, very special friend Arlene Koitzsch of La Center, and three grandchildren.
A memorial potluck will be held at a later date, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

SHIRLEY BAKER
Shirley Louise (Gilje) Baker, 74, died June 23, 2007, in Vancouver.
Baker was born Jan. 19, 1933 in Great Falls, MT, and attended schools in Montana.
Baker enjoyed needle point and reading.
Baker was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Baker on June 22, 2007, and daughter Karen Lee Jones. Survivors include sons Dale Barker of California, Lee Barker of Montana and Michael Barker of Woodland, daughter Alice Easter of California, 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Woodland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

WILLIAM BAKER
William Clifford Baker, 60, died April 20, 2007, in Ridgefield.
Baker was born Dec. 25, 1946, in Stamford, Connecticut. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed fishing and watching videos. He lived in Ridgefield for one year. He worked as a longshoreman.
Survivors include mother Edith Baker of Battle Ground, daughters Sharon McMurrich of South Dakota and Katie Baker of Oregon, son Dusty Baker of Venezuela, brothers Robert Baker of Battle Ground and Charles Baker of Oregon, half-sister Jeanie Baker, and several grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Wed., May 2, 12:30 p.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home Chapel, Battle Ground, with graveside services at 2:30 p.m. at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland.

SIDNEY BANKER
Sidney G. Banker, 63, died of heart failure Jan. 4, 2008, in Vancouver.
Banker was born July 11, 1944, in Yacolt, and lived more than 50 years in Vancouver. He moved to Raymond in 1991.
Banker enjoyed tutoring children. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing and reading. He had worked in plywood mills. He returned to college and earned an associates degree. He cared for his mother for several years before her death.
Survivors include sons Sidney Banker and Christopher Banker, both of Vancouver, brothers Harvey Banker, Herbert Banker, Timothy Banker and Chuck Banker, all of Oregon, sisters Margaret Lincoln and Phillis Bitner, both of Oregon, and Susan Mink of Raymond, and one grandson.

JOHN BARNETT
John Barnett, chairman of the Cowlitz Indian Tribe since 1982, died last weekend at home in Grays Harbor County. Barnett, 73, was born Dec. 2, 1934, in Portland, and lived in Aberdeen for several years. He taught school and coached sports in Aberdeen schools. He also worked in the timber industry. Barnett was preceded in death by his brother, Werner Barnett, in 2007, and son Michael. Survivors include son David Barnett and daughter Elizabeth Pearson, both of King County, and four grandchildren. Bill Iyall, formerly vice chair of the Cowlitz Tribe, will succeed to role of chairman.

SHIRLEY BARTEL
Shirley Jean (Thompson) Bartel, 61, died of cancer May 11, 2008, at home in Ridgefield.
Bartel was born Oct. 1, 1946, in Pryor, OK. In 1967 she married John Stedham. They had one son, John. They divorced and she later moved to Vancouver. In 1981 she married Henry Bartel. The couple moved to Ridgefield and had two children, Brandon and Rosann.
Bartel made store window displays, modeled clothing and appeared on television and radio commercials. She loved arts and crafts and was known for painting carousel horses, fashioning decorations for her home and parties. She had a sharp sense of humor.
Bartel was a registered nurse. She enjoyed bowling and participated in many tournaments. She was proud of her Native American heritage and was a member of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma.
Bartel attended New Heights Church.
Bartel was preceded in death by her brother, John Thompson. Survivors include husband Henry Bartel, at home in Ridgefield, sons John Stedham of Arlington and Brandon Bartel of Ridgefield, daughter Rosann Bartel of Ridgefield, brother Dick Thompson, two grandsons, three nephews and many friends.
Services will be held Thurs., May 15, 11 a.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home chapel, Battle Ground, with interment at Park Hill Cemetery, Vancouver.

MARY BARTLETT
Mary Louise (Holcombe) Bartlett, 77, died Jan. 5, 2008, following a battle with breast cancer.
Bartlett was born Aug. 27, 1930, in La Center. She married Joe Dobbins in 1948 and live in Yale. She enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. In 1962, she married Ronald Bartlett and lived in Amboy until moving to Prosser in 2000.
Bartlett was a member of Eastern Star. She enjoyed traveling, sewing, gardening and digging clams at the beach.
Bartlett was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Bartlett, in 2005, plus two brothers and a sister. Survivors include daughters Carol Guillroy of Texas, Phyllis Caldwell of Prosser, Valerie Dobbins of La Center and Janny Dobbins of Pasco, son Jack Dobbins of Idaho, sisters Bertha Bump of California and Katherine Stein of Woodland, six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside inurnment services will be held at a later date at Mt. View Cemetery, Amboy, with Prosser Funeral Home & Crematory, Prosser, in charge of arrangements.

ROY BEERS
Roy Carl Beers, 74, died June 28, 2007, in La Center.
Beers was born Dec. 17, 1932, in St. Helens, OR, graduated from Nehalem High School in Oregon, and attended Oregon Technical College in Klamath Falls, OR. He served in the U.S. Navy 1954-58, and lived in Vancouver from the early 1970s until 2002.
Beers was a member of the Eagles Lodge in Tillamook, OR. He was a Boy Scout Leader in Vancouver and a member of a model airplane club. He held belts in karate. He worked for Pierre Foreign Car Repair in Vancouver for 25 years, and then for Pierre’s son Stefan in Woodland, also in foreign car repair.
Beers retired in 2002 and moved to Conrad, MT. He returned to La Center in April 2007.
Survivors include widow Florence, at home in Montana, daughters Tammy Marugg of La Center and Kathy Sleton of Woodland, sons Greg Beers of Montana and Steven Beers of California, step-daughter Connie Foster of Alaska, step-sons Ronnie Smith of Oregon and Bo Smith of Walla Walla, 17 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A gathering is planned for Sat., July 7, 4 p.m., at 2313 NE Lockwood Creed Rd., La Center. Davies Cremation & Burial Services is in charge of arrangements.

EDNA BEHRENDSEN


Edna Marie (Sathoff) Behrendsen, 88, died April 10, 2008, in Woodland.


Behrendsen was born March 18, 1920, in Gilmore City, IA, and worked in the fields with her father. She married Clyde Behrendsen in 1941 who was stationed in Vancouver during World War II. After Clyde’s discharge, the couple returned to Gilmore City to farm and raise their three children. In 1956, the Behrendsens returned to Vancouver. They relocated to Woodland in 1959 where they worked side-by-side farming pole beans, cucumbers, sweet corn, berries and cabbage. 


In 1999, the Behrendsens opened Behrendsen Farms, a produce stand, at their home along Old Highway 99 in Woodland. Edna enjoyed meeting and greeting customers.


Edna was a member of Highland Lutheran Church, Hulda Klager Lilac Gardens, and Sew and Sew Quilters at Highland Lutheran Church. She was active in senior citizen activities in Woodland.


Edna Behrendsen was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Behrendsen, in 2004, son Tommy Behrendsen in 2000, and daughter-in-law Lynn Behrendsen in 2005. Survivors include daughter Janet Boon of Woodland, son Randy Behrendsen of Woodland, five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


Memorial services will be held Fri., April 25, 3 p.m., at Highland Lutheran Church, 38809 NE 41st Ave., La Center, with Davies Cremation & Burial Services, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.


CLEO BEISE
Cleo Idell (Robbins) Beise, 92, died June 3, 2008, in Ridgefield.
Beise was born Sept. 9, 1915, in Woodland, and lived in Clark County for 61 years, the last 10 in Ridgefield. She had also lived in Woodland and Cougar areas.
Beise was a charter member of the Clark County Saddle Club, captain of the Clarkettes Drill Team in the 1960s, and a postal route carrier.
Beise was preceded in death by her husband, Tony Beise, sister Alice Thomas, and brother Jack Robbins. Survivors include daughters Roxanne Walker and Diane Blue, both of Ridgefield, and Dixie Vail of Oregon, son Rocky Beise of Colorado, sister Vera Slayter of Idaho, brother Bill Robbins of Montana, special family friend Ben Richards, 17 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and nine great-great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. Burial of cremated remains was at Yale Cemetery, Ariel, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

JOHN BENZLER
John William Benzler, 84, died Feb. 4, 2008, in Vancouver.
Benzler was born Jan. 13, 1924, in Los Angeles, CA, and
lived in Vancouver the past three years.
Benzler was a member of the Moose Lodge in California. He
enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He served in the U.S.
Army during World War II. He worked in the long-haul truck
industry. He was married to his wife, Maridell, for 47 years,
and wife Jean for 10 years.
Survivors include sons Ray Benzler and Elba Benzler, five
grandchildren and eight greatgrandchildren. Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle
Ground, was in charge of arrangements.

DOROTHY BERG
Dorothy (Birkebak) Berg, 95, died May 2, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Berg was born April 12, 1912, in Libby, MT, and lived in Clark County for 19 years, the last 12 years in Battle Ground.
Berg was a member of the Unity Church of Tacoma and Vancouver. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Tacoma in 1930. She enjoyed organic gardening, health foods and watching golf on television.
Berg worked as a bookkeeper for NAPA Auto Parts in Tacoma, and Auto Auction in Idaho.
Survivors include sisters Betty Johnson of Fircrest and Doris Grazini of Lake Spanaway, and grandsons Scott Meyers of Vancouver and Corey Meyers of Alaska.
Interment was at New Tacoma Cemetery, Tacoma, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

AUDREY BESLANOWITCH
Audrey Naomi (Teel) Beslanowitch, 76, died May 13, 2007, in Vancouver.
Beslanowitch was born Nov. 21, 1930, in Vancouver, and lived in Hockinson for 50 years. She enjoyed feeding the squirrels and birds near her home. She also enjoyed baking cookies and cakes, singing and traveling. She drove a school bus for Hockinson and Battle Ground schools for over 20 years
Beslanowitch was preceded in death by three sisters and son Kent. Survivors include widower Louis Beslanowitch at home in Brush Prairie, sons Scott Beslanowitch, Paul Beslanowitch and Casey Beslanowitch, all of Brush Prairie, and Craig Beslanowitch of California, daughters Julie Larson of Ridgefield and Mary Frost of Yacolt, 17 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Vancouver Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.

JANET BILLS
Janet Ann (Wells) Bills, 75, died Feb. 10, 2007, in Longview.
Bills was born June 25, 1931, in Cannon Beach, OR. She was a member of the Kelso Eagles, the Longview American Legion, and the Old Time Fiddlers Association. She enjoyed Friday evening poker nights at the Eagles. She is remembered as a kind, loving and caring person.
Bills was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Bills, in 2002 son Norman Bills in 1988, and son-in-law Denny Grimes in 2006. Survivors include son Joseph Bills Jr. of Kelso, daughter Sharon Grimes of Longview, brother Norman Wells of California, five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and special friend Vic Magstadt.
At her request, no services are planned, with a potluck remembrance set for Sun., Feb. 25, 11 a.m.-4 p.m., at the Longview Eagles, 1526 12th Ave., Longview, with family and friends invited. Longview Memorial Gardens was in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

JOHN BIRRER
John F. “Butch” Birrer, 72, died Dec. 4, 2006, in Vancouver.
Birrer was born May 4, 1934, in Vancouver. He graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1952. He worked as a shop foreman. He retired in 1996 after 20 years with the Evergreen School District. He was a lifetime resident of Clark County.
Birrer enjoyed playing racquetball, watching his grandchildren play sports, and singing in the church choir.
Survivors include widow Judy Birrer, at home in Vancouver, daughters Cindy Birrer of Battle Ground, and Tracey Martinez and Jamie Lindsey, both of Vancouver, sister Joan Mixer of Vancouver, brothers Donald Birrer of Vancouver and George Birrer of Colorado, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Burial was at St. John’s Catholic Cemetery, Vancouver, with Hamilton-Mylan Funeral Home, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.

KATHLEEN BLACKFORD
Kathleen Cynthia (Cutting) Blackford, 84, died Dec. 10, 2007, in Vancouver, after a 25-year battle with Scleroderma.
Blackford was born Sept. 8, 1923, in London, England. During World War II, she was a volunteer radio telephone operator in the British Royal Air Force, helping bring home disabled American and British planes returning from attacks on Germany.
Blackford emigrated to the U.S. in 1954, settling on the east coast where she volunteered in a hospital and with the Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
Blackford was a singer. She performed in several church and community theaters. She was known for her soprano voice, sense of humor and constant smile. She enjoyed reading, sewing, traveling and spending time with family and friends. She moved to Washington in 1994 to be closer to her daughter and son-in-law.
Survivors include husband of 61 years, Dennis Blackford of Vancouver, brother Michael Cutting of England, son David Blackford of Pennsylvania, daughter Christine Pienkowski of Battle Ground, five grandchildren and several nephews, nieces and grandchildren.

LINDA BLAKEMAN
Linda (Bloomquist) Blakeman, 61, died Feb. 26, 2008, in a car accident near Hot Springs, MT.
She was born Feb. 17, 1947, in Wilmington, DE. She married Russell Blakeman Aug. 1, 1970, and lived in New Jersey before moving to La Center in 1974. She moved to Vancouver in 2003 and then to Hot Springs, MT in January 2008.
She was a homemaker who enjoyed shopping, trips to the beach and board games. She enjoyed road trips to visit friends and family and recently purchased a dream retirement home in Hot Springs. Blakeman was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Survivors include sons Gerald Blakeman of Vancouver and Glenn Blakeman of La Center, daughters Yvonne Cox of Seattle, Karen Modrall of La Center and Michelle Nagel of Vancouver, brothers Roy Bloomquist and Glenn Bloomquist, both of Maryland, sisters Marie Sweeney of New Jersey, Elaine McDowell and Louise Eastburn, all of Delaware, and five grandchildren.
Services will be held Sat., March 8, 11 a.m., at the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church, 16603 NE 142nd Ave., Brush Prairie, WA. Burial will be at Elim Cemetery, Battle Ground, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

RUSSELL BLAKEMAN
Russell Blakeman, 62, died Feb. 26, 2008, in a car accident near Hot Springs, MT.
He was born June 11, 1945, in Cheyenne, WY. Blakeman traveled throughout the east coast working as a refrigeration mechanic. He met Linda Bloomquist on his travels. The couple married Aug. 1, 1970, and lived briefly in New Jersey before moving to La Center in 1974. He moved to Vancouver in 2003, then to Hot Springs in January 2008.
In addition to working as a refrigeration mechanic, Blakeman owned the Mountain View Trucking Company.
He enjoyed maintaining his La Center acreage and raising his family as well as doing yard work at his Vancouver home. Blakeman enjoyed road trips to visit friends and family and had recently purchased a retirement home with a creek and guest log cabin.
Blakeman was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
He was preceded in death by his brother Raymond Blakeman, sisters Dorothy Heidegger, Beulah Finley and Eva Anderson. Survivors include sons Gerald Blakeman of Vancouver and Glenn Blakeman of La Center, daughters Yvonne Cox of Seattle, Karen Modrall of La Center and Michelle Nagel of Vancouver, brothers Herbert Blakeman of Montana and Silas Blakeman of Wisconsin, sisters Ida Lytton and Edith Efraimson, both of Montana, Mary Johnson and Ruth Kangas, both of South Dakota, Esther Jolma of Wisconsin and Retha Massie of Woodland, and five grandchildren.

JULIA BLANK
Julia Catherine (Hannigan) Blank, 85, died Feb. 6, 2007. in Vancouver.
Blank was born Jan. 14, 1922, in Hawkeye, ND, crew up in Crosbey, ND, and moved to Spokane in 1941. She worked for the Air Force at Fort George Wright training center in Spokane. She moved to Weizer, ID and then to Vancouver in 1947.
Blank worked in an administrative capacity for the Vancouver School District for several years, and then for the Bonneville Power Administration in Vancouver until she retired in 1979.
Blank was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed her family, traveling, camping, gardening, church activities and watching football.
Blank was preceded in death by her husband, Alford Blank, in 1997, and sisters Sister Rosalia, Evelyn, and Dorothy, and brothers Frances Hannigan and Daniel Hannigan. Survivors include daughters Diane Blank of Brush Prairie and Rita Gallup of Vancouver, sons Larry Blank of Oregon and Jeffrey Blank of Vancouver, brothers Mike Hannigan and Ed Hannigan, both of Portland, sisters Margaret, Irene and Viola, all of the Portland area, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Vancouver, with Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

TAMRA BLEHM
Tamra Lin Blehm, 47, died Dec. 4, 2006, in Puyallup.
Blehm was born March 21, 1959, in Portland. She lived in Buckley for 12 years and in Puyallup for 28 years.
Survivors include parents Anita and Frank Blehm of Woodland, sisters Trudi Kinsman of Battle Ground, and Trena Anderson of Woodland, and six nephews.
Burial was at Mountain View Cemetery in View, with Weeks’ Dryer Mortuary, Tacoma, in charge of arrangements.

COLEEN BODIN
Catherine “Coleen” (Johnson) Bodin, 81, died Jan. 28, 2007, in Vancouver.
Bodin was born Sept. 10, 1925, in Colville, and moved to Venersborg in 1941. She graduated from Battle Ground High School in 1943 and lived in Clark County for the past 66 years.
Bodin attended St. Joseph’s School of Nursing, earning a registered nursing degree in 1947. She worked as an emergency room nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital and an industrial nurse for Jantzen Mills. She was director of nursing for Hill Haven Convalescent Center in Vancouver.
Bodin was active in both the community and her church. She was nominated for Battle Ground Citizen of the Year in the 1980s. She attended Charter Oak Evangelical Free Church where she participated in several Bible studies and the Elizabeth Whitney Circle which focused on missions. She served as church hostess for many years.
Bodin enjoyed attending breakfasts with former Battle Ground School District employees and retired nurses. She was a lifelong member of the Venersborg Community Club.
Bodin enjoyed camping, traveling, World War II Army reunions, family reunions, crafting and decorating her home.
Bodin was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Norman Bodin, in 2005, son David Norman Bodin, daughter Kathleen Kay Bodin in 1973, and granddaughter Angela Michelle Gavin in 1991. Survivors include daughters Norma Jean Bodin Kennedy of Amboy and Carol Ann Hazen of Battle Ground, brothers David Johnson, Jerry Johnson and Darrell Johnson, all of Amboy, sister Judy Steigmann of Amboy, and four grandsons.
Viewing will take place Wed., Jan. 31, 6-8:30 p.m., at Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground. Graveside services will be held Thurs., Feb. 1, 10 a.m., at Venersborg Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 11:30 a.m. Feb. 1 at Charter Oak Evangelical Free Church.

MOLLY BOLSOY
Molly Anna Bolsoy, 26, died Nov. 11, 2006, at home in Brush Prairie.
Bolsoy was born Sept. 18, 1980, in Vancouver, and lived in Clark County all her life, the last 13 1/2 years in Brush Prairie. She was a lifetime member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church.
Bolsoy was disabled.

JOYCE BONGE
Joyce Marion (Barnes) Bonge, 82, died Feb. 9, 2006, in Vancouver.
Bonge was born Dec. 13, 1924, in Lake Stevens, lived in La Center, then about 60 years in Vancouver, and then in Battle Ground.
Bonge volunteered with the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. She enjoyed gardening, sewing and cooking, and was famous for her cookies. She also enjoyed going to the beach, country music, panning for gold and being with her family. She attended Friends Church in Vancouver.
Bonge was preceded in death by her first husband, Alfred Sprecher, in 1975, and second husband, Kenneth Bonge, in 2005. She was also preceded in death by sons Danny Sprecher and Dwayne Sprecher, both in 2002, and brothers Ernest Barnes, Freddy Barnes and Allen Barnes. Survivors include daughters Donna Albus of Oregon and Diane Schick of Colorado, sons Dennis Sprecher of Battle Ground and Doug Sprecher of Vancouver, sisters Edith Lapp of Ocean Park, Abigail Cousins of Seattle, Birdie Rapp of Battle Ground and Eva Lampert of Ridgefield, 10 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held Wed., Feb. 14, 4-9 p.m., at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver. Funeral services will be held Thurs., Feb. 15, 12:30 p.m., at Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, with Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements.

SHARI BOOTH
Shari Renae Booth, 19, died May 19, 2008, at Rosario Beach near Anacortes, when she failed to surface after a dive in the Puget Sound. She has not been found. Booth was born Dec. 20, 1988, in Portland, and lived in Vancouver for one year until moving with her family to Brush Prairie. She attended Meadow Glade Elementary School through the eighth grade, and graduated from Columbia Adventist Academy with high honors in 2007. Booth was a freshman student at Walla Walla University where she planned to major in biology and pursue a career as an equine veterinarian. She loved all animals, especially horses. She was a member of the Range Riders 4-H Club for six years. She went on mission trips to Mexico and Appalachia. She wanted to help people. She wanted her life to make a difference. Booth was preceded in death by her father, Dr. Lowell S. Booth, in 2006, and by her grandparents. Survivors include mother Marsha Booth of Brush Prairie, sisters Sharla Carlson of California and Sarah Booth of England, nephew Derek Carlson of California, aunt and uncle Laurie Booth and Bill Simon of Oak Harbor, her beloved horse Rooster, and many friends. Memorial services were held at Meadow Glade Seventh-day Adventist Church and a celebration of life took place at Walla Walla University.

CHRISTOPHER BOSKIND
Christopher Franklin Boskind, 65, died June 1, 2007, in Ridgefield.
Boskind was born May 4, 1942, in Malabar, FL, and lived in Clark County for 10 years, the last 1 1/2 months in Ridgefield.
Boskind was a member of the Seventh-Day Adventist Church in Orchards. He enjoyed traveling, reading and sea shells.
Boskind had worked in the furniture industry.
Survivors include widow Connie Boskind, at home, daughter Dawne Wright of Battle Ground, son Jeffrey Boskind of Oregon, brothers Richard Boskind of Florida and Andrew Boskind of Tennessee, four grandchildren and eight nieces and nephews.
Graveside services will be held Wed., June 6, 3 p.m., at Brush Prairie Cemetery, Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

MABEL BOSTROM
Mabel (Wynne) Bostrom, 100, died Aug. 29, 2007, in Battle Ground.
Bostrom was born May 20, 1907, in Berkeley, CA, and lived in California, Alaska and Oregon, and the last 10 years in Battle Ground.
Bostrom enjoyed playing the piano and cooking. She had worked as a registered nurse.
Bostrom was preceded in death by her husband, Rudolph H. Bostrom in 1984, son Rudolph Bostrom in 1993, and brothers John Wynne in 1999 and Raymond Wynne in 2001. Survivors include daughter Dorothy Carden of California, son David Bostrom of Battle Ground, six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Interment will be at Green Hills Memorial Park, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, beside her husband and son, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

LYLE BREIMON
Lyle Gordon Breimon, 81, died April 26, 2007, in Vancouver.
Breimon was born April 30, 1925, in Saskatchewan, Canada, and moved with his family to North Dakota. He moved to Vancouver in 1955 and worked as a plumber.
Breimon served in the U.S. Army for about eight years, including service during World War II. He fought in Germany and then with the 82nd Airborne during battles in The Philippines. He earned the Silver Star for bravery, and other medals.
Breimon’s hearing was damaged during the war. He became fully deaf in 1994.
Breimon’s Battle Ground home was damaged by fire in 2005, and he lived in a hotel since then.
Breimon was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Faye Breimon, who died in 1999, and by several brothers and sisters. Survivors include sons Kurt Breimon and Jeff Breimon, both of Battle Ground, Barry Breimon of La Center, and Tim Breimon of Kalama, daughter Cindy Cisneros of Battle Ground, sister June Meyers of Camas, eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Interment was at Willamette National Cemetery in Portland with Evergreen Memorial Gardens, Vancouver, in charge of arrangements.

MARION BROWN
Marion Olese Brown, 89, died Dec. 7, 2007, in Vancouver.
Brown was born May 19, 1918, in Modesto, CA, graduated from Modesto High School in 1935, and earned a degree in chemistry at San Jose State College in 1941. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Brown worked as a chemical engineer with Westvaco, Barium Products, and Food Machinery Chemical Corp. in California. He was a volunteer fireman and a volunteer Junior Achievement supervisor.
Brown enjoyed fishing, golfing and clamming. He moved to Battle Ground in 2000.
Brown was active in the Mason’s Lodge in California and Battle Ground. He was chaplain of Silver Star Lodge in Battle Ground as well as the Cowlitz #24 Council of Cryptic Masons. He was active in Gateway Shrine Club. He served as prelate of Cowlitz Commandery #29 Knights Templar, and high priest of Longview #55 Chapter of Royal Arch Masons.
Brown was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Richmond, in 2006, second wife Dorothy Colbert in 1986, and third wife Anne Borchardt in 2002. Survivors include daughters Marilyn Parker and Elice Brown, both of Battle Ground, and Fay Pollino of California, son Russell Colbert of California, and grandson Matthew Parker of Vancouver.
A memorial service will be held Sat., Jan. 19, 2 p.m., at Manor Grange, NE 179th St. and NE 72nd Ave., Vancouver, with refreshments to follow. Brown’s ashes will be interred at the Acacia Memorial Park, Masonic Cemetery Association, in Modesto, CA.

LARRY BRYAN
Larry Lee Bryan, 66, died Jan. 31, 2008, in Vancouver. Bryan was born Nov. 7, 1941, in Vancouver. He was raised in Ridgefield, and lived in Beaverton, OR, from 1975
until 1998, then in Vancouver until his death. Bryan served in the U.S. Marines. He was a member of the Royal Rosarians and the Masons. He was owner/operator
of Bryan’s Baldwin Pianos in Portland and Vancouver.Survivors include sons Rick Bryan of Bellingham, and Jeff
Bryan of Seattle, mother Lorene Kampe of Ridgefield, and sister
Linda McCanta of Ridgefield.
Services will be held Sat., Feb. 16, 3 p.m., at First United
Methodist Church, 401 E 33rd St., Vancouver, with Emily’s
Cremation and Burial Services, Milwaukie, OR, in charge of
arrangements.

ERROL BURBANK
Errol Duane Burbank, 66, died June 26, 2007, in Clackamas, OR.
Burbank was born Oct. 18, 1940, in Spokane. He grew up in San Jose, CA, and graduated from Campbell High School in 1958. The family moved to Battle Ground in 1972.
Burbank was a true out–doorsman. He enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing. He was an avid fan of the Seattle Seahawks and Seattle Mariners. He had a great sense of humor. He was a charter member of the Dollars Corner Moose Lodge and a member of Fish First. He enjoyed old cars and tractors. He was a friend to many including Bill Keist and Stu Willis.
Burbank worked for Bob Kendall Chevrolet as body shop manager. He also worked for Clark County as a heavy duty mechanic. He retired in 2002 after 26 years of service with the county.
Burbank was preceded in death by his father, Luther Davis Burbank. Survivors include mother Viola Burbank of Vancouver, widow Pat Burbank, at home in Battle Ground, son Errol Burbank II of Wenatchee, daughter Vicki Neufeld of Battle Ground, brothers Trenton Burbank of Battle Ground, and Ron Bennett and John Bennett, both of California, one grandson, one niece and one nephew.
Burial was at Memory Memorial Park Cemetery, Vancouver, with Layne’s Funeral Home, Battle Ground, in charge of arrangements.

TAMMI BURDICK
Tammi Lee Burdick, 46, died Jan. 14, 2007, in Vancouver.
Burdick was born June 30, 1960, in Vancouver, moved with her family to Louisiana, and returned to Vancouver on her 13th birthday. She graduated from Columbia River High School.
Burdick earned a license in cosmetology and worked as an instructor in that field. She owned a mobile hair cutting business called Hair We Come.
Burdick enjoyed fishing, camping, scuba diving, singing, cooking, writing poetry, drawing and photography. She was knowledgeable about computers.
Burdick was preceded in death by her father, Lynn Burdick, in 2006. Survivors include mother Violet Burdick of Vancouver, daughters Brandi Hafterson and Heather Jackson, both of Oregon, sisters Kris Mays and Jamie Dotson, both of Vancouver, and five grandchildren.
Memorial Gardens Funeral Chapel, Vancouver, was in charge of cremation and other arrangements.

ROY BROWN
Roy “Dick” Brown, 94, died April 11, 2007, in Vancouver.
Brown was born Dec. 10, 1912, in Washougal where he was raised and educated. He was a dairy farmer for 40 years in Ridgefield, retiring in 1977. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. In later years he raised beef cattle.
Brown was preceded in death by his wife, Dora, in 1999. Survivors include son Richard Brown of Ridgefield, daughter Shirley Rogers of Oregon, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held Thurs., April 19, 11 a.m., at Northwood Park Mausoleum in Ridgefield, with the Vancouver Funeral Chapel in charge of arrangements. Visitation will be Wed., April 18, 10 a.m.-6 p.m., at the funeral home.

ALICE BUCK
Alice K. Weber (Aldstadt) Buck, 93, died June 30, 2007, in La Center.
Buck was born Feb. 10, 1914, in Muncie, Indiana, and had lived in California, Winlock and Chehalis, before moving to La Center about four months ago.
Buck loved her family, friends and her dog, Vanna. She had worked as a fancy presser in a factory.
Buck was preceded in death by her first husband, Al Weber, in 1952, and second husband, M.F. Buck, in 1987. Survivors include son Mike Weber of Oregon, daughters I. Kathleen Jones of Ryderwood and Georgia Buckbee of La Center, 13 grandchildren and 29 great-grandchildren.
