Letter to the Editor: MGP, Kent both have it wrong regarding Middle East

Posted

Editor,

In an interview with The Daily Chronicle, Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez said, “I did not run for office to resolve peace in the Middle East. I have an obligation to reflect the values and interests of my district to fix the things that I can make progress on. I am not an expert in the Middle East. And the experts don’t agree.”

Flash forward to April 2024, and we have MGP leading bipartisanship effort with establishment Republican Lori Chavez-DeRemer to protect the Southern border and arm Ukraine for defense reasons is common sense, but her bill is also going toward giving Israel more money for weapons in Gaza. What Hamas did on Oct. 7 was inhumane, but what Benjamin Netanyahu did in response is just as inhumane. How many more dead Jews and Palestinian civilians will it take for Gluesenkamp Perez to stop voting on giving Israel more weapons? The Ministry of Health says that 30,000 people in Gaza consisting of multiple ethnicities are dead (Jews and Palestinians included.)

What Gluesenkamp Perez is doing is supporting genocide. She said she doesn’t want to solve Middle East problems while arming Israel with weapons to lead to more deaths.

Gluesenkamp Perez advertised herself as a Democrat fighting, walking down the aisles as an independent voice, but the extremist Joe Kent would’ve voted the same way. What will win independents is to call for an immediate ceasefire, release the hostages and work on a two-state solution so Israel and Palestine will have their own countries.
